School aged kids don't need "care" and supervision like preschoolers. These schools could easily go to 30 with 1 teacher before breaking laws.

They don't need care? Or supervision? So why is it against regulations for a teacher EVER to leave her classroom unattended? So, it is okay to corral 5 yr old kindergarteners at say 28 to a room w/ one teacher (like my neighbor's daughter's class) but that would be against regulations in a 4 yr old classroom?

I am agreeing with you.

My son's public elementary school has 8 kindergarden classes with 15 or 16 children each. Takoma Park Elementary in Montgomery Country. You can get into the school's magnet program from elsewhere in the county starting in 1st grade through a lottery.

Bridges Charter School has 12 - 13 children per class and either 2 or 3 teachers. It's a public charter pre-school designed for children with and without special needs, and focused specifically on early childhood education and early literacy. It's a wonderful little school in the Columbia Heights area. Your tax dollars are paying for it anyway, you should check it out:

Sorry, I just realized you said Kindergarten and I was thinking Pre-K.

Bridges is for Pre-school/Pre-K only (ages 2 to 5).
