Where to look for mid-range sofa set

For example, a solid colored couch is often paired with a love seat or chair in a print fabric that complements the solid color, with throw pillows on the couch of a different color or complementary print to tie it together. The style of the two pieces should be different enough for variety in height/shape but not in completely disparate (e.g. you wouldn't put a minimalist sofa from room and board with an overstuffed ruffled floral print chintz chair from wherever one would buy such a thing). This sounds more complicated than it is -- most mid-range furniture stores show rooms already put together that are coordinated in this way. The salesperson can most certainly help you put something together. |

Another designer here. I disagree with sets being bad. Places like Room and Board have suites that are coordinates and modern. But they're not cheap and a sofa and a chair and ottoman will be $3k at minimum.
Try Macy's. I've seen decent offerings there. Quality isn't too notch, but it's unlikely you want to keep these pieces 20+ years. |

They closed their Arlington store, but are opening a new one in DC soon. They told me near H Street area. The Rockville store is still open. |

They have closed with several Yelp comments about people losing money and a number of BBB complaints. We too were looking at their furniture...

We gave them a deposit on a sofa this winter and they won't return my calls about either where the sofa is or returning the deposit. There are many angry customers who are in the same circumstance. They say they are opening a new store but this is hard to believe.

I think Macy's is your best bet . They have a nice look , decent quality , lots of choices , and stock most items so you can get it delivered in about a week.
I'm a designer and Macys was always my go-to place for the sofas in the model homes that needed super quick and attractive pieces. |

I second the room and board suggestion, as well as mitchell gold (MGBW) and West Elm. the West Elm Dunham sofa we just got is fabulous, and I had it custom made in a special order fabric they offer that I just love. There is a store in Tysons if you want to check it out. Room and Board has 4 floors of awesome furniture on 14th st, and down the street is MGBW.
