[/quote] For example, a solid colored couch is often paired with a love seat or chair in a print fabric that complements the solid color, with throw pillows on the couch of a different color or complementary print to tie it together. The style of the two pieces should be different enough for variety in height/shape but not in completely disparate (e.g. you wouldn't put a minimalist sofa from room and board with an overstuffed ruffled floral print chintz chair from wherever one would buy such a thing). This sounds more complicated than it is -- most mid-range furniture stores show rooms already put together that are coordinated in this way.
