"You don't sound/look overweight at all"

Lose weight, Fatty!

I think their underlying emotion that they're trying to relay is, "We love and respect you no matter how you look," but what comes across is "Nothing's wrong with you!" because fat-prejudice is so rampant in our society they don't want you lumped in the category of Fat.

This is the problem and very typically American of you to say. It is not healthy to be 135 and 5'2". That is fat. If she had 5 more inches she would be a healthy weight. BMI is a joke, her BMI is at the high end of "normal" which any healthy person knows is no where near what one should be tipping the scales at

OP, yes you are overweight. I assume you are a fairly young woman. Wait until you get older, 135 is going to quickly turn to 155...and then the motorized cart at the grocery store.

You do realize that muscle mass plays a role in how one looks?

I am sure you have seen the internet pics of people who are the same height and same weight and one person is fat as hell and the other one is muscular. That doesn't just apply to bodybuilders you twerp.

Get a life and some education.

This is just not true for all women. A lot depends on bone structure. I'm 5'1", and when I was at 135 I was definitely not "fat." I got sick and dropped down to 115, and looked almost emaciated. Now the health issue has passed, and I'm up to 125, and it's really the minimum weight I could be healthy at, with my slightly larger frame.

PP here and 107 at 5'1 and definitely do not look emaciated.

Ok. So what? Not everyone is you.

Go back to your Chipotle lunch.

135 and 5'2" is FAT especially on a young person. OP does not exactly give off the fit vibe. If she were a tight 135, she would not be posting on here. She has a mirror and health issues and realizes that she is unhealthy. Just because you are a cow, don't think that that is what everyone else strives for.

NP but chill the hell out. The best you got is to make empty accusations about what they're eating and call someone a cow? I bet you have a really sweet life, with that attitude

OP says that she is apple shaped, which means she is storing fat around her belly and that may be the reason she is experiencing health issues. Belly fat is the most dangerous kind because it is an indicator for heart problems, diabetes and cancer. OP, yes you are overweight at 5'2 and 135 pounds, unless as a previous poster pointed out you are muscular like an athlete. That is the only way that someone your height and weight could not be considered overweight. Another poster claimed she was sexy as hell at 5'2 and 140 pounds. That may be true, but it also true that she is fat with those numbers unless she too is an athlete. Denial is a very powerful obstruction to change. It seems like you have some self-awareness and want to lose weight and that is the first step, but please don't go on a diet. Learn to change your eating habits and find a physical activity you like and good luck to you.

No the pp who is all defensive about herself being 135 and not fat is an asshole.

Not saying the other pp should have made the Chipotle lunch comment, but I am the 107 5'1 poster and I was just telling her my account of being 135 and how I looked and then decides to say how weight loss at 135 makes one look emaciated at 115?

Sorry NO- I am not emaciated and I did not call you FAT. But apparently you are since you are so damn defensive.

Very curious about OP's health issues.

OP here. I agree with 12:54. My weight is abnormal, and I'm desperately trying to avoid the motorized cart. I'm 5'2" and 135 lb, and I have metabolic syndrome -- borderline diabetes, high triglycerides, high cholesterol. I am a very muscular athlete (always have been), but I am still too fat. I finally "woke up" and realized that gaining 20 lb of fat since starting college is not OK.

My plan is to make more frequent exercise a top priority (despite being busy at work and having little kids that are always sick, etc.), eat 1-2 cups of non-starchy, no-fat vegetables with every meal, use myfitnesspal.com to track calories, and weigh myself frequently.

My weight crept up 4 lb in the past 3 months after my scale broke. I stopped keeping track of my weight. It is so easy to gain weight in our society. Too little time and lots of high calorie foods everywhere.

Some people do talk fat. There's a guy on NPR that sounds huge.

I'm 5'0 and 129. No one would call me fat.
