Most of this extra weight is in my waist - I'm very apple shaped now. I would like to invest in a decent pair of jeans to try to boost my self-image - can anyone recommend a good pair for my size? Thank you.

You honestly don't sound overweight at all. My sister swears by Blank Denim which she finds at Marshalls. Either way, make sure you get at least 2% spandex.

Get cheap jeans unless you are planning on being fat forever.

OP here. Thanks for all of these recs. I tried on a bunch of jeans tonite and I bought Lucky brand The Sweet Jean, bootcut style - I think they look decent as they are curvy cut with a bit of a higher waist. The salesperson at Nordstrom in the premium jean section was not nearly as helpful as I would have expected, or else the selection of jeans with a bit of a higher waist is slim there. (i dont like NYDJ btw) I think Cut From The Cloth would've worked except they didnt have the wash I wanted. Thanks again to all - I wouldnt have even thought to try on Lucky brand!

I wear the Lucky jeans as well and I am 5'3, 150 and somehow (vanity sizing, perhaps?) fit into their size 8s. I think I look pretty good...I wear tall shoes and don't have big droopy ones which I think slenderizes me a little.
