Westbrook ES or Somerset ES?

My DD is in a class of 25 at Westbrook.

We love the school, very involved parents, great new principal, she has a great teacher.

What else is there to say? Both are great suburban schools, probably very little difference.

Thank you, can you tell me what grade? It appears from their past numbers that K is kept in the 20s but 1 and up can be in the 30s. I am sure it is a great school.

1st-3rd are not supposed to have more than 26. I have never heard of any elementary school in MCPS having 30 kids without a new class being created.

That's an interesting question. At Somerset class sizes went us after the renovation, which made the school more appealing to many parents, though the recession was also a big factor.

The numbers linked to earlier in this thread showed an average class size in grades 1-5 of 34, which I thought was quite high.

Not sure I follow this. Do you mean that the recession led many families to move their children from private to Somerset?

Yes -- and that many parents went public from the start, thus the bump in class sizes traveled like the mouse in the snake from K-5.

26 kids per class is an MCPS guideline, but the classes can and do exceed that (not speaking only to Somerset and Westbrook).

True. The guideline is just that, a suggested number. There is no guarantee that your child's class won't be larger.
