My DD is in a class of 25 at Westbrook.
We love the school, very involved parents, great new principal, she has a great teacher. What else is there to say? Both are great suburban schools, probably very little difference. |
Thank you, can you tell me what grade? It appears from their past numbers that K is kept in the 20s but 1 and up can be in the 30s. I am sure it is a great school. |
1st-3rd are not supposed to have more than 26. I have never heard of any elementary school in MCPS having 30 kids without a new class being created. |
That's an interesting question. At Somerset class sizes went us after the renovation, which made the school more appealing to many parents, though the recession was also a big factor. |
The numbers linked to earlier in this thread showed an average class size in grades 1-5 of 34, which I thought was quite high. |
Not sure I follow this. Do you mean that the recession led many families to move their children from private to Somerset? |
Yes -- and that many parents went public from the start, thus the bump in class sizes traveled like the mouse in the snake from K-5. |
26 kids per class is an MCPS guideline, but the classes can and do exceed that (not speaking only to Somerset and Westbrook). |
True. The guideline is just that, a suggested number. There is no guarantee that your child's class won't be larger. |
