PP, do you live in Twinbrook? Do you work at Twinbrook ES? Do you have a child at Twinbrook ES? What information do you base your statement on?

I have extensive experience dealing with the people who live in Twinbrook. I've lived in this county my entire life. Long enough to know neighborhoods, areas of the county, and the schools.

What does that mean? Your landscapers live in Twinbrook?

It is the opinion of JW and RM families from other feeder schools. I used parantheses because it is their opinion. The problem kids, the non-english kids, the poor test kids, the goofing off in class kids. It sucks but I hear it all the time. I have heard about gangs there competing with a Lincoln Park gang and another from Mont Village. I am sure everyone in and outside of Twinbrook will have various opinions and no one knows what the OP wants. I don't live there but near there and am positive I wouldn't want to live there. It may be great for some but not for my family. That is why there are different neighborhoods.

+1 We have lived in Twinbrook for 5 years and are happy with the neighborhood, and have not experienced any gang activity or been victims of crime. Our child is also a toddler, so we do not have experience with the elementary.

That is why there are different neighborhoods? Just different people with different preferences about where to live? Some people prefer chocolate, some people prefer strawberry, some people prefer to live in safe neighborhoods with good schools, some people prefer to live in dangerous neighborhoods with bad schools?

I live in Twinbrook and my kids go to Twinbrook ES. We have been here for three years and are very happy. My oldest will go to Julius West next fall and my youngest is in 1st grade, so I have been through every grade level.

We do like it. Despite being a Title 1 school, or the fact that there are low test scores, it is a good school. My kids are all above grade level and I still feel that they are appropriately challenged. I do believe that the low test scores are a reflection of the very diverse population of students; many are ESL learners. As my kids move through the school, the above grade level group seems to grow each year, meaning that the ESL students are catching up. The school gets more student aids and teachers to because of the Title 1 status. The younger grades have smaller class sizes. I think my daughter's class currently has 16 students.

The PTA is active and friendly. I do not attend PTA meetings, but we do donate and attend all of the PTA functions.

I've only had issues with one teacher, two years ago, when my middle child was in 2nd grade. She transferred to another school the next year (not because of us!). The other teachers have been amazing. They care about how each student is doing and the progress they are making. They don't let any student just slack behind simply because they are above grade level. I know that is a concern for some parents when considering schools with low test scores.

I can give specific examples or answer any questions you might have. I do not want to engage with anyone about Twinbrook being the "sore" spot in the RM cluster, nor do I want to debate the Title 1 status. We are very happy here. I was nervous about the school, too. Before living in this area, my kids attended private school in the Midwest. We have not been disappointed.

PP again- I love the afterschool program at Twinbrook Community Center. I've posted about it on other threads. There is also a before school program, but we are not currently enrolled. There is an afterschool program at the school, but after touring both, we much prefer the community center.

Nicely done, PP. People like to talk shit about my kids' school too, based on the amount of brown kids there, yet it is a fantastic school and we are very happy. It's amazing what people "know" about a school and neighborhood when they have never been there.

Right..we are in the RM cluster and my kids have kids from each of the feeder schools. We don't have any thoughts about 1 school vs the others. I thought Ritchie Park was supposed to be the best of the 4 but I know someone who moved there and is unhappy. Go visit the school OP

Actually, that shows me the neighborhood is actively involved in making sure this does not go on. The squeeky wheel gets the oil and I have never seen a task force for burglaries outside of Potomac and Bethesda.

Every neighborhood would do this IF they had that many robberies in 2 months. The key is MOST don't.
