Loose Lips on Muriel

She is neither a saint nor sleazeball. However, she has absolutely no qualifications either legislatively or professionally, to be mayor.

However, once in, she impressed me with her knowledge of the issues, her public demeanor, her near immediate reaction to postings on local listservs, her energy in supporting local groups on issues of importance to them, her willingness to engage with people she knew were not supporters, and, last but not least, a staff that also displays the above qualities.
I have had no interaction with her personally. However, I have heard from people that I trust that both she and her staff have been heavy-handed and arrogant in the performance of their public duties. Again, this is not first-hand experience, so I will have investigate myself.

I have also heard some complaints about non-responsiveness, but my own experience and the predominance of reports I have heard have been positive.

As one who expects to vote for her, all I am asking is that we not make her into a saint or sleazeball, and not call people moronic assholes because they plan to vote differently than us. The City will survive whichever mayor we choose in 2014.

Yes, the city will pretty much go on in the same dysfunctional way that it always has and probably always will.

We survived Barry. We survived Pratt Kelly. We survived Fenty. I am over surviving, and want the city to continue thriving.

This sounds like a personal issue that has nothing to do with politics.

Actually, I am terribly invested in politics in the city. I know Muriel Bowser. I live in Ward 4. I'm just not impressed. Oh - and she is absolutely a dud. She hasn't done anything in 8 years. Not having any ethics charges does not make you a good candidate.

Wow. She's been in office eight years? And I still wouldn't recognize her if she walked by me on the street. I live in Ward 6 so she's a bit of a non-entity to me but I'm pretty sure I'd at least do a double-take if I walked by any other council member who's been around awhile. (Sorry Kenyan McDuffie and David Grosso, I still don't know what you look like.) I'm trying to keep an open mind until I know more but that City Paper piece was disheartening.

Here she is, along with the three newest members. I'm guessing you at least know enough about them to recognize which is which:

Just out of curiosity, would you really recognize Jack Evans or Yvette Alexander if you happened to pass one of them in the street?
