University of Miami (FL) comes to mind. |
i can't begin to imagine how fun that place must be as an 18-21 year old. |
The sent the most hysterical brochures to DC. Pics of really sweet-looking, pretty blond coeds. Girls who seemed like they would be really sweet about helping you unpack and find the cafeteria, but not exactly the type you'd discuss Plato with. |
Nice stereotype. Just because someone is blond and pretty you think they can't discuss plato? Oh, and they'd help with "clothes and food?" Maybe they'd show you where the chemistry lab is and the basketball courts are. I hope you didn't make this sexist comment around your kid. |
You need to see the photo and the rest of the brochure. The marketing guys are clearly targeting a certain audience. |
If you can get into an Ivy you probably can get into a UNC or UVA or Michigan and don't need to go to a 50th ranked state school. The vast majority of people would assume that someone who goes to Harvard (or another Ivy) is smarter or more driven than someone who goes to Maryland. It's just more impressive. Not everyone wants to stay in state. Most kids want to venture out. If my kid got into an Ivy I would do what I could to send him there, not so much GWU or BU. |
That may be but I'm hoping you aren't as sexist as you sound. Wondering if you're a man or woman. |
True. However take PSU or UW-Madison for instance (both in the 40's for rankings), many might feel it isn't worth double or 2.5x the cost to go out of state to another public school. |
Think Southern Belle if that helps. I'm a woman and a proud feminist, which is why I was put off by the brochure. What's your excuse for being a douchebag who picks fights on the interwebs? |
Closer to home -- University of Richmond. |
Tufts, Bucknell, Franklin & Marshall, the usual suspects. Not worth the filty lucre. |
Honey, it's Mom. This is finals week. Get off of DCUM and go to the library. Love you. |
Did you read the article OP posted? Or do you just have an urge to state your opinion irrespective of the discussion at hand? |
