OOS Tuition: What's a reasonable tuition cost?

Anonymous
OP you have posted some version at least 3 times. It seems like you are not comfortable with paying for the schools your DD got into this year. And there is no guarantee she will get into a PA program. Why don't you all look at her going to CC next year, boost her grades and transfer somewhere? Based on earlier posts, she hasn't been terribly motivated, so sending her several states a way may not be a good recipe for success.

I've posted multiple times because this is her senior year, so of course there are questions. I don't think UNCC is worth it, but I couldn't decide if I was being cheap and this is the norm for an OOS school.

Did your DD end up attending? My DD who is a junior is also interested in this school. With the 10k a year grant from DCPS the school seems like an option.

That doesn't seem too unreasonable. It is on par or less than in state tuition at some schools (like the UC system). Does this include room and board? If so, I don't know that you are going to get much cheaper with your HHI.

Eh, I wouldn't pay OOS tuition for unc-Charlotte. I'm from nc. Unc chapel hill and nc state, sure.

Not the OP but I believe the OP posted recently that she didn't have money to cover the second semester so get DD was returning home. Weird situation all around.

I'm not the OP but my DS likes the diversity and the feel of the school when he visited. The other two you mentioned are too large.

OP here and yes my DD is at UNCC. With the tuition break, I'd say it's a decent school for the cost.

My DD is an introvert, so she hasn't joined any organizations, but there are plenty on campus and I like the school's environment. The diversity is great and Charlotte is a good city for those used to being in a DC-like town.

With that said, my DD has said that a lot of students talk about transferring out, so I get the impression that NC students go here until they succeed in transferring to Chapel Hill.

Those schools are overwhelmingly white.

UNC Charlotte is 61% white and 17% black which is as good as your goi to get for diversity

Ok, that makes sense re: diversity.

DD wanted a diverse school, so UNCC was a good state option for us. She also got into Rutgers-New Brunswick, but the tuition cost was crazy ($40k; only $11k in financial aid).

Based on my daughter's personality, it's best for all considered if she goes to school this fall *away from home*. I'm prepared to offer one year at UNCC and then she'll have to transfer in-state (Towson, UMBC, etc) OR pick a school that is a part of the Southern Regional Education Board (http://www.sreb.org/page/1304/).

I just wasn't sure if I was being cheap and didn't understand that this is an average cost. Like other pp's, although we can swing it, I just don't think UNCC is *worth* the cost.

I've posted on this forum a few times. DD wants to be a physician assistant, so her major is not yet defined. At UNCC she's undeclared (since it's likely she'll have to transfer after one year), but eventually she'll probably major in Psychology/Nutrition/something similar.

Why not just have her establish NC residency after 1 year? I know someone who did this and then got in-state tuition at NC State.
