I actually choose nurses over doctors whenever possible. A nurse practitioner is very highly trained, and because her time is cheaper, she generally has more of it to give patients. For routine care, they're the best. |
Since most of the provisions of the Affordable Healthcare Act have not taken effect yet, this statement is inaccurate. These people are seeking out Minute Clinics because they can't get a timely appointment with their current free market physician. FWIW, I've used Minute Clinics in Bethesda and Tenley, and have been satisfied with the care, although not the wait times. The Urgen Care Clinic in Cleveland Park is also very good. |
| OP, Z-pac is no longer prescribed. It's been linked to heart problems. |
| I am sitting here coughing up globs of green gunk. When I breathe, I wheeze. My ears and sinueses are clogged. Yes, I need a antibiotic. Yesterday was a waste of time and money. The person at CVS started preparing tests even before he examined me. Then he wouldn't give me anything at all. He didn't understand why I was angry. I am going to my doctor today.l I will get plenty of meds to wipe this out, however I've lost a day of work--something I was trying to avoid. Will never go to any minute clinic again and will post about this on yelp. |
| You keep talking about tests. What tests did you get? Besides a swab here or there (strep/influenza) what test could they possible give you for a cough and runny nose? |
Not true. My husband just finished a Z-PAC. It's still being prescribed for some infections. |
Pavlov's Dog. We've been conditioned to get an Rx when we go to the doctor. Think about it -- when was the last time you left a doctor without an Rx? |
| There is a nurse practitioner in the Chevy Chase Arcade on weekends -- much better than the minute clinic. I prefer to see a doctor but there are no weekend hours at the practice I use. |
Thanks for this. Next time I'll go there. |
Yes, we go to a "dr's office" to get treatment. I have neither the time nor money to deal with being sick. That's why there is medicine and antibiotics. I choose to use them. |
OP, it sounds like you have bronchitis...which doesn't respond to antibiotics. |
Wrong. Antibiotics are given for bronchitis to reduce the chance of a secondary infection. |
| Why does the OP think she is entitled to not wait and get treated right away? I was there this same morning at 9:10 am with 2 other people in front of me as we watched the doctor come in. We all waited our turn as first come first serve.. I asked for a strep test, he gladly gave one, and it was negative. You could have done the same. Then CVS called yesterday afternoon to confirm it from the lab. I had no problems and he apologized when he arrived that the NP was not there and should have been which would have made the wait less for all of us. Go run over to Sibley next time. They claim there waits are 30 min. |
Very, very, old think. Antibiotics are not given in the absence of an acute infection. |
| Went to doc--have upper respiratory infection. got antibiotics and cough meds w/codeine so I can finally get some sleep. For all you people who think you need to suffer through infections and seem to enjoy being sick I recommend you reconsider and get a good doctor. Hopefully will be back to work tomorrow. |
