Curious what others think

Right now, if you are using the proportional method, you should be paying $1975 and DH $1025 of the monthly expenses. That $375 per month over two years comes out exactly to $9000. So, one could actually say that *you* are responsible for his debt by overcharging him for the monthly expenses. Look, you have a family now and must stop thinking of everything in terms of his and hers. Agree with PP who said to sit down together and work out a financial plan. And no one should quit their current jobs until the numbers work out and both parties are really committed to it.

My bigger concern is that if you currently make him pay almost 50% of the expenses and he is going to quit working you are now going to be paying 100% and probably not going to like it.

You don't just start a business and go back to work if it fails. You put time, energy and FUNDS into a business. The majority of businesses fail within 2 years....and continue to fail after that. Great that you have faith it will work. Doubtful though.

This is my too long way of saying that you have much bigger problems than his cc debt.

He shouldn't quit.

The extra expenses of a kid will surprise you.

Insurance
Diapers
Clothing
Food
Toys
Doctor visits
Car seats
Extra seats on planes
Schooling
Etc etc etc

Get your life under control with a kid THEN quit. Also there is no FUCKING way he can launch a business AND take care of a kid full time. Absolutely not possible.

19:58 is right. Your DH will not be able to take care of your DC full-time and have a new business at the same time. Look into full-time childcare options now for your return to the workforce at the end of the year.

If your dh quits and then decides he doesn't want to stay w the baby (it's hard fucking work) it will be difficult for him to find another job in this market. He will drink more than ever and then you will want to divorce him and you will have to pay alimony and child support if he gets custody, which could happen.

Let him play golf if he agrees to keep working. And start looking for daycare now (they have waiting lists).
