If you take a cab to the airport, what do you do about car seats?

On the other end, you have your husband meet you at the baggage claim and handle the car seats. On the return, your husband drops you off at the airport with the skycap, do the reverse of the above. When you get to the baggage claim, flag down a baggage escort and have him take the car seats and any carryon bags to the curb for you and flag down a cab. Tip him $5-10 and go home.

Re: your handful of a 2 year-old. If you have an Ergo baby carrier lying around your house, you can use it. I've used it with a 2yo several times in an airport when I didn't have a skycap.

A word of caution, I just flew out of DCA on Wednesday with 2 kids under 2 and used both carseats in the cab. My hope was to use a skycap to help with the luggage curbside (we were out of terminal A so we had to get across the barrier fence and bus lane) but there was not one to be found. I lugged everything (happily I had a backpack care seat carrier for the convertible seat and the baby was still in a clip in infant seat). If you go to terminal B or C is is much more doable as curbside check in is only 15 feet from the cab.

Give the seats to your husband and have a friend (with their own carseats you could in their car) drop you off at the airport.

While it is legal to ride in a can without carseat.... It is so unsafe. To me, safety trumps convenience when it comes to carseats.

I second wearing the 2 yo on your back. Sooo much easier than chasing, lugging, or needing hands for a stroller. Do you live near a Metro station? Could you get to the airport that way? We always end up driving and parking to avoid the cab without carseat scenario.

No way i would take 2 caraeats and try to juggle 2 kids. I would:

1) drive and park at the airport. Short trip, parking isnt that expensive for a couple days, probably less than a cab, and for a couple days i would cough up the money for short term parking.

2) take metro

3) have a friend drop you off

4) find a cab company with carseats-- but this wont help you on the wy home.

Honestly, i would just drive. If you dont have extra carseats, dont you need them anyway, what if your kids have an emergency and need to be driven somewhere?

When we won't need car seats for the bulk of the vacation we use a car service with car seats for the trips to and from the airport.

My husband drives me to the airport and he picks us up. In the destination, if I need to ride a cab I sit my 3y old and buckle the regular seat belt in, only across the lap though. The part across the chest I put behind her back because it would strangle her in case of an accident since she is too small (size of a 2y old). We travel A LOT and it would be very impractical to take the carseat... besides, should I drag it around while walking in the event I need a cab?
