Life after the snap n go

For example, my little string bean is under 16 pounds but I had to transition him to a big boy seat because he's too tall for the straps.

I've been wondering about shopping myself. To the poster who suggested an insert that has straps, I'm eagerly awaiting a link!

I agree with this poster. My child lasted MAYBE six months in his carseat due to height and weight. But I completely understand about hating the switch. I did too. I just loved the infant seat and that it snapped right into that stroller frame. So easy to handle and the baby faced you and the whole thing. It was a bummer when we had to switch to a real stroller and carseat, but such is life. The kid can't stay in an infant seat forever. If it is safe for you to switch back right now, it's just a bandaid for not much longer. You'll get used to it. We too kept the infant seat in the car for a while to use in restaurants, shopping carts, etc. even though we could no longer safely use it for the car. And yes, we have two carseats - one for each car.

Use two rolls of paper towels to bolster your child in the grocery cart. My sister taught me that, and it worked like a charm!

Many stores have a few carts with an infant seat built in. We sometimes use that for our 10 month old son - he's outgrown the Snugride, but loves sitting up high in the cart. I know we've used them at Giant and Target.

Both of my boys were big babies and outgrew their infant seats around 4 months. My youngest is 5 months now and I just go with it and take him out of his seat if he's napping and put him in the stroller (or take him out when we get home) and hope he stays asleep. I think that this practice really helped my oldest son to learn to sleep through transitions. To this day (he's 4 now), if he falls asleep in the car, he will not wake up when I take him out and put him in his bed for a nap.

20:04 - Please check your seat. I'm pretty sure the Snugride weight limit is 20 lbs.

PP here who said the Graco went to 22 pounds.

Here's the link on Graco's site to the snugride that I have.

Under the heading "Recommended Use" it says:
For infants 5-22 lbs and up to 29”

It was an adjustment, but we're pros after several months of this! If my now 20-lb, 10-mo Ds is asleep, I'll gently lift and wear him in my Ergo (he usually falls right back asleep). If he's awake, we'll use the Ergo on most errands, unless it's a long walk (MacLaren) or shopping (grocery cart - definitely look for the one with the infant seat attached, thats great until they are older).

For the mom who wanted a link to a shopping cart cover w/ straps: http://www.target.com/Eddie-Bauer-Shopping-Cart-Cover/dp/B0010WGZYW

I got one for a baby shower gift and hated it. I bought a different one.

For the OP: my DS outgrew the length of the infant car seat. It was a sad day when I stopped using the snap n' go and lost a lot of freedom to go anywhere easily. I switched to a convertible Britax and used a baby Bjorn carrier until he outgrew that. My DS loved being in it .....also came in handy when we traveled on the airlines. After a while, a regular car seat to shopping cart, stroller etc will be second nature.
