Or... you are over-reacting.

Have a spot in the 18-23 range for K. Can someone estimate my probability of getting in?

In the top 10 for preK (but already bumped down two spots in the last hour..)
Yes or No? Are we getting in?

Yes. You are definitely getting in. Okay? Seriously, you're getting in, mostly likely in time for Kidfest.

By the way, you're also detail-oriented and hyper-vigilant, so you will find some birds of a feather.

Now, put down the internet and go get that drink.

Umm, not sure if I should thank you or feel insulted, but I'll just go with it. Thanks. I hope that you are right. Are you a current parent?
You must remember what it is like to be in my position?

If you're at the top of the WL, then you showed up *very* early to get there. Plus, if you've noticed your name move two places on the waitlist just since it has been posted, then you've obviously looked at more than once - within a few hours. As you will learn, YY attracts a fair share of Type As; it doesn't mean that we're not nice people, those are not mutually exclusive characteristics.

Relax, if I'm making fun of you, it's really because it's like looking in a mirror.

Actually I found out here, on DCUM that the wait list had moved 2 spaces. I promise I didn't look at it more than once within a few hours. I am excited and anxious, but not crazy. Yet.

None. Sorry.

As for the preK top 10, my guess and just a guess is yes even with the twins who bumped you down two spaces.

I agree about K. There were zero K slots at lottery, and it seems like any K spots that open already have ibs waiting for them. Sorry but that's how it seems.

Anonymous wrote:I posted this on the other YY thread as well so I apologize. So there are 72 spots. I'm very curious how many of those went to siblings. If the jumbo preK was two years ago and many people have their children spaced 2 years apart I can imagine that a lot of those spots went to siblings (maybe 1/3?)

It is making me feel a whole lot less confident about my top 10 WL number, especially since we know that #s 1 and 2 will definitely accept.

I think I will drink, but out of sheer anxiety. Certainly feel it is way too early to celebrate.

You will have to call the school and ask how many spots went to sibs. Historically around 1/2 went to sibs/founders but that was before the jumbo class and news about DCI. I almost suspect they listed the acceptances so that people can't tell the # that went to sibs.

I recognize the names of a few younger sibs, it's all in alphabetical order - unless you know them you can't tell if they got in via sibling preference or the lottery. However, I'd be genuinely shocked if HALF went sibs (and there just aren't that many founders btw, not to mention that of those there are, they're all in the school already). That happened exactly one time, for SY 2010-2011, when 25 of the 50 spots went to sibs. Even at its current size, there are not enough 4 y.o. sibs at YY to take 36 seats.

Currently there are 430+ kids enrolled with over 110+ in the jumbo rising 1st grade. 36 4 y.o. Sibs are possible although for those on the waitlist, I hope it's less. Hope the school sends out a newsletter or tells at the next PA meeting. Really curious how many sibs took spots going forward with DCI and the jumbo class.

Think of it as kidding gone bad. Congratulations, really.

Wait list is back to original places. Don't know what happened to the two that got put in at the top of the list, but our child's place is back to where it was at the initial unveiling of the list.
Anonymous
I'm pretty sure that means that 2 people who won the lottery said no, and the 2 sibs in front of you got in. I.e., the waitlist is starting to move.
Anonymous
^The two were admitted. That's how the waitlist moves.

I suspect that there will be movement in August after "Chinese summer school" when parents realize they got more than what they bargained for.

Entering PreK does not go to Chinese summer school which lasts two weeks. Only new students who are entering K and above are required to attend. It's not mandatory for existing students although it's free for those who go.

Ha ha. As a current type A YY parent, I am also wondering how many sibs, mostly because I have a sib coming in 2014 and am wondering whether I need to show up at 4 am just to be sure in case all the spaces are taken by sibs AND I don't get in on a sibs-only lottery.

Ok I know that's completely crazy.

But not completely inconceivable.

Seriously I'm not really going to do that.

Probably.

My impression was that there wasn't much Chinese in "School Camp" last year.
