The shooting happened in front of Tyler House, which is not part of Sursum Corda. Tyler House will not be razed, it will be renovated.
http://batesareacivicassociation.org/2012/11/29/tyler-house-major-renovations-planned/ This shooting, while disturbing and sad, does not really have an impact on my feelings about MV's new location. This area is in the middle of a big transition. My hope is that very soon this area will be a safer place, primarily for those who live in the area. It is they who are most affected by this type of late night criminal activity. |
You must not have lived here very long, but the neighborhood is called Sursum Corda, its behind Walker Jones ES |
No kidding. IDK. There was a shooting across the street from Cleveland ES right around school pick up time back in the fall. There are a couple of "crews" in that immediate area that have been feuding forever. Is it a similar situation over by new MV location? Because that would concern me, personally. Not that I'd take my kid out of school as a result, but I'd be concerned. |
| Unforunately when you live in the city there is crime. Frankly I don't see Noma being any more violent/dangerous than Columbia Heights. There are frequent armed robberies up and down 14th Street, shootings, carjackings, etc. They just happen in front a multi-million dollar shopping center instead of Big Ben Liquor. |
| Does MV have pickup and drop off at 2am? If not, I don't think this really impacts the school. If the shootings start happening in the iddle of the day, THEN I'd worry. |
I've lived here for nearly two decades, and never heard Sursum Corda to nean anything other than the specific set of houses/apartments founded by the Jesuits of St Al's. |
Yeah, if I had a nickel for every time a middle-aged white man was responsible for a drive-by.... I couldn't do anything but cast a bad Godfather sequel. |
Tell your 5 year-old to avoid a drug-dealing "turf" war, and she'll be fine. |
Well, what type of men enter buildings with the sole intent to kill as many as possible? Perhaps not middle aged, but certainly mostly white men. Not that I'm frightened of that happening anymore than a drive by in the day, but it seems your ignoring an obvious point, pp. |
| BTW, Dc doesn't have a very large Mexican population. It would be more appropriate to say Latino or even Salvadorian. |
Right. Because no innocent kid has ever been caught in the crossfire... |
A) Not middle-aged; rather, young and stupid. Also at the age where mental illnesses such as psychosis begin to manifest. B) It was a drive-by in front of a housing project at 2am. White guys prefer suburbia during working/school hours. |
