of the dozen(?) top charters, which did you NOT apply to, and why?

We didn't try for some because of the distance and skipped the ones that highlighted science in tehri school descriptions because I want more of a creative/liberal arts focus.

But you did MV? Are you going to do language immersion for just one year if you get in? That would be a waste for your family and for others that might want the spot long term.

I said French or Spanish, why wouldn't I do MV? In any case one year of one particular language wouldn't be a waste in my opinion.

^I hope you are talking about Basis and Latin b/c for PK3/PK4 there isn't any difference between a liberal arts focus vs a STEM focus.

NP. MV is moving... near 2R. Commute will be about the same for both.

We skipped Mundo Verde and LAMB because not interested in Spanish. Did not apply to YY because we are PK3. We will have sibling preference for PK4 at YY.

YY
LAMB
MV
Stokes
Sela

In that order

Does anyone have an opinion about CAPCS PK3 on Allison St? It's pretty close for us.

Skipping Two Rivers, EL Haynes, Stokes and Yu Ying because of the commute, but did all the rest. I applied for MV before I knew about the move and would take the spot if for some miracle I got one since they will be on 16th St. next year.

PK- Also skipped MV, Stokes, LAMB and YT because we don't have high priority for language. To comment on another post earlier about IT, I hear nothing but rave from parents from IT in addition to CM so they are on top of list.

So it's all about the convenience, nothing about the opportunity for a second language. Your myopia is a subject for textbooks.

Hopefully you won't get in; you're a perfect example of casting pearls before swine.

I would love to have my children get the second language. But not if it means dragging them on an extra hour of a commute a day, since it would probably add another half hour for us each way to go to the new location. Maybe you should start from the position that everyone here is trying to do what's best for their family instead of lashing in out in so much anger.

Do not underestimate the harmful effects of a stressful commute on young children. The benefit of the second language would be minimal or negated.

Stokes is my top choice, would like French immersion, but would be happy with Spanish.

For Prek4, we skipped:

-YY (was excited initially but Mandarin is impractical for our fam)
-Creative Minds (just not interested)
-EL Haynes (applied for PreK3)
-2Rivers (applied for PreK3)
-Cap City(applied for PreK3)
-IT (went to an open house last year, seems like a nice school but something was missing for me, so didnt apply)
-Appletree (was never interested though its a good program)

Applied to Stokes, MV, LAMB, Sela (not sure about this), and bilingual DCPS schools. DD is already enrolled in a school I am happy with for now.

PK4, skipped:
-YY - no interest in Chinese
-Appletree - toured 2 campuses last year (got into one) and just didn't think it was a good fit for DC. Plus, I want something that has the potential for more than just PK.
-MV - Spanish isn't that important to me
-LAMB - Same

Applied to Meridian and Shining Stars.

Plus IT, Creative Minds, Haynes, 2 Rivers, Cap City, Stokes and Bridges.

Commute wasn't that important to me as I plan on moving this summer anyway and am flexible on location.

You must want French then. Stokes is French or Spanish. You said you didn't care about Spanish.
