Not a new question- but hoping for updated responses re. best AAP centers

Fairfax can't increase class sizes anymore as they are up against the state maxes as it is.

Thank goodness. Some of them are ridiculous.

If we actually have the ear of a School Board member I have a question on a different topic.

The current draft of requirements for HS graduation for rising 9th graders is an online class. At the orientation at the HS, they said that if a child is enrolled in an online class as one of their 7 classes, it would be scheduled first or last period. The student would not be allowed to be on campus during that time and the student would not be provided transportation to school or home since they would not be taking the regular bus in the AM or PM. They also said that if the student took the on line class outside of his/her normal 7 classes, he/she would have to pay for it. Currently most county classes cost $750.

Both add undue hardship to many students. Not everyone has $750 to spend on a class and not everyone has access to private transportation.

Is my interpretation correct?

I suggest posting this as a new thread -- and you raise a great question!

LATE START OPTION FOR STUDENTS
Students may take up to two online courses that can be
scheduled in the first and second block to allow for additional
time to sleep. Transportation arrangements for a student on
this modified schedule is the responsibility of the family.
Students who wish to pursue this option should indicate that at
the time of course registration.

I know and it makes me so angry!!!! What a waste of resources!

Where are these properties? And please tell us how you would utilize them and pay for that. I am sure the school board would appreciate the help.

I have posted this before. I only know about the ones near Tyson's.

1) Force the Board of Supervisors to find another site for their daycare currently at Lemon Road. (Pimmit HS site might be an alternative) That would give you 6 more classrooms.
2) Kick out the current tenants at the old Lewinsville school on Great Falls BEFORE they make the renovations. The senior center can also move to the Pimmit Hills Site and perhaps a second location at the MCC. Coordinate with MCC before they make their next renovation.
3) Move the current offices at the old Dunn Loring School and renovate.

Then- Lemon Road can expand its district and absorb some of the over crowded Haycock District. Dunn Loring can absorb some of Freedom Hills over crowding. Lewinsville can take some of Kent Gardens, which in turn can take more of Haycock. Any extra at all three can be saved for the Tyson's growth.

Good comments, as I am not familiar with those parts of the county. I know, this is getting way OT of the original post. When you say daycare at Lemmon Road, is that SACC you are referring to or another program? As for Dunn Loring, FCPS was able to bring Lacey Center back as a new school this year, perhaps the same can happen for Dunn Loring too, if they can find places to move the programs/offices that are there now. One would hope all of this is looked at closely, but then, with a new superintendent coming in next year, who knows what to expect?

The Lemon Road Daycare is not SACC OR the special needs preschool is a full time for ages 2 1/5 to preschool - it is not a "public daycare" either. There is no reason it should be housed in an Elementary School. Unfortunately just before the school committee looked at Lemon Road for its current renovation, the BOS renegotiated the rental agreement so that the Daycare could stay many more years- it was a little bit underhanded in the timing and the way it was done.

There are 3 FFX county (once schools) spaces I know of that are currently being rented out to others are: Lewiston center, Dunnloring center and Pimitt Hills elementary. Through in the wing at Lemon Rd elementary being used for the Falls Church/ McLean children's center. The first three do need some Reno work But this is actual SACE in the Tyson's area! The schools in this area are busting at the seems and only getting more crowded. I'm sure if there are 3-4 spaces in just a mile of each other, there are a bunch more in the the rest of FFX County.

The Prinicpal at Mosby Woods is good; she has command of the school. Both APs are really good, too. The kids respect all 3 in the administration. Guidance is great. We have 2 on staff and both are veapp good. The school has a lot of after school activities. Very active PTA. Each class goes on 2 field trips a year, which the PTA pays for. The PTA also pays for, I think 3, in school performances a year. The teachers are AMAZING! We have 3 at the school and have been pleased each year. I love the 1st and 2nd grade teams; you cannot go wrong with any of them! I am only familiar with the 3-6 AAP and have been really pleased with all. They have funky or freaky Fridays, they switch around the AAP and General Ed classes so the kids co-mingle with the entire grade. I think this is monthly. I am not aware of animosity between AAP and Gen Ed parents. In fact, the PTA board consists of both and they are a tight group. All around a great school. The school is diverse; just like the DC metro area. A great mix of kids and families. Have a great group if core friends that we have met over the years. We feel truly blessed to be part of the school community.
