To the black kid....do you have a sibling there...or are you catholic...I am curious as to how they make their decisions. I started to think there was some............

I know at least two black families at OLV, one is Catholic and the other is not.

The principal is a snob. She doesn't want blacks there. The office staff are prejudiced to

Small, cramped, good academics with some presence of former DCPS 6th graders, but not overwhelmingly so. Don't know why previous posters keep insisting the school is bigoted. Go and see for yourself.

We might be interested in sending our daughter for their 3s program in the 2014-15 school year. Can anyone tell me how many days/week and hours/day it is?

I think it is considered a "safety school" so to speak for Key school kids. I don't think it is anyone's first choice but if money and options aren't abundant, this is where you might wind up.

Difficult to get into OLV after 3rd grade. Lots of private school parents who can't afford the independents any longer and are parish members are sending their kids. We and several others we know that were turned down at 6th grade level because they give priority to OLV parishioners. There are very few spots in the upper grades. Because this does reflect the parish, it would also explain why there is not much diversity. What others have said about structure and no-nonense principal is true.

Does anyone with kids at the school know the recent trend of exmissions? Their website shows that last year's class had 100% acceptance to St. John's. There must have been other schools...

Maybe you should think less and spend more time getting the facts. There are plenty of families who actually choose OLV. Some of the reasons are:

-It's a good school.
-It's in the neighborhood.
-Some families want a Catholic education (kids go on to St. John's, Gonzaga, et al.).
-Some people cringe at the idea of spending $30K+, even if they can afford it. (See recent thread on this topic).

Yes, there are a lot of people who think that if their DC doesn't get in to a "Big-3" their lives are ruined, but just because a kid is at a "safety school" doesn't mean they are poor or were rejected by Sidwell. Stop perpetuating the idea that these kids and their families are in some way inferior because their choices are different from yours.

Oops, your insecurity/inferiority complex is showing.

This is true, we were turned down a couple years ago. It's a great school (have friends with kids there), I don't think it would of been a good fit. DD is happy and thriving at another catholic. As far as diversity, I observed OLV to be more diverse than any of the other catholic schools we toured in NW & MC. In fact it's way more diverse than DD current school.

08:42: I also toured the school and share your impressions especially about being a good fit. Do you mind saying what school your DD ended up at?

Nursery is 5 days a week 8-2:45 but you can pick up at noon. Last year there was a waiting list for Nursery.
