dress code in yoga

I personally don't care if the men wear speedos, women wear a bra top, etc. Then again, I'm one that would do yoga in the naked if you allowed me. Be free!

For a bunch of yoga adherents, ya'll's a bunch of uptight ninnies. Ironic.

A square cut swim trunk is perfect. Meant for public visibility, tight enough to keep the goods out of view, but short enough to allow the instructor to see the tension of your thighs and hamstrings, and not as high priced or hard to come by as yoga shorts for men. Just a bit more conservative than a speedo, and you can wear it to swim in the gym pool too.

If Adam Levine walked into my yoga class in his underwear I would be very happy.

Apparently lulu lemon pants shouldn't be appropriate, either:

(I hope the pic shows up)

If you are really watching someone else that closely in a yoga class, you are merely doing postures and not practicing yoga.

Finding appropriate men's clothing for hot yoga is more challenging than it appears to be and the oddballs in underwear and Speedos deserve a little sympathy. Yoga clothes for men are silly expensive so expect to pay $60-100+ for a good pair of men's shorts that are suitable for hot yoga. It drives me crazy since I am cheap with my workout gear and still have athletic wear from college. Then you have to wash your yoga clothes (and maybe add some bleach) after every class to get rid of the odor that develops in Bikram studios so they won't last long and you will need several pairs for everyday use. If you go to hot yoga and don't have compression shorts, borrow your wife's compression bike/yoga shorts (if she will let you) and wear them under regular gym shorts made of synthetic fabric. However, if your gym shorts are too long they will start sticking to your legs which gets really annoying. One option is to wear the compression shorts under a pair 70s style Boston Celtics short-shorts. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1733757-we-remember-the-lakers-short-shorts-against-the-celtics-in-2007. You will look ridiculous but problem is solved and who wants all those women flirting with you anyway? I really have not found a good solution for myself since Speedos and underwear are out of the question. While they do seem weird, about 15 minutes into a class of 108 degree heat when my shorts are sticking to me and my head is spinning Speedos and underwear start to make complete sense. There are so many options for women from 3-packs of yoga shorts for $9.99 to Lululemon haute couture. On the other hand, the guys have to be more creative with hot yoga clothing options. So cut these guys a break or the next thing you know they may start showing up in loin cloths or sans clothing and sprayed with body paint...

As for women's wear - I have been caught a few times thinking I had the appropriate top that would stay put, only to find that, unfortunately, no... It's also really annoying for the poor yoga acolyte that can't dress herself properly and doesn't want to go buy a whole new yoga wardrobe [me].

I have seen a number of cocks, and I mean the actual skin of the cock, in yoga because men were wearing something insufficient to keep it contained and they deep twisted or some other move.

I'm with OP.

I was doing a seated twist and my eyes fell on the escaped penis behind me. It was right there; I wasn't looking for it.

This is a funny discussion. When my husband wanted to try a few yoga classes, I went to Target and purchased the compression underwear for him.

I'm pretty much the opposite of Mr. Underwear. I wear gym shorts UNDER track pants. You will not be seeing my junk, and it's quite unlikely you'll see buttcrack or even a tiny peek at my boxers.

I looked up men's yoga clothes once and got a bunch of "fishermen's pants." Not sure I could do tree pose in those.

The "compression shorts under gym shorts" idea is probably the best.

I thought you were kidding about the fishermen's pants when searching for men's yoga clothes:

I imagine that they could be useful if you need the drawstring to hang yourself.

Exactly. I'm a yoga teacher and yogi, and the only thing I ever remember a fellow practitioner wearing was this hot girl wearing a tight, almost see through tee - with no bra and hard nipples. I'm definitely not yogic enough not to notice! She was hot. Otherwise, the whole practice is about turning within. Try doing that.

Most of us doing yoga aren't trying to be yogis, as I assume you know.
