| The problem we've had with Peapod is that on more than one occassion they have delivered meat that's either ON the due date or past it. Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice ... won't be fooled again. We stopped using them. |
| Even the non perishable stuff was past it's due date. As for fresh ... nasty. Nice idea but in practice did not work for us. Maybe for cat food or paper products. |
| Interesting. Our experience with them (have used occasionally for the past year) has totally exceeded expectations. I was leery of ordering produce, but everything's been fresh. They've been late 2 or 3 times (by 15-30 minutes), but I've always gotten a phone call to warn me in advance. And they've only been out of a handful of less common items. I'm a fan! |
| I've been using peapod for at least ten years now, and while that's long enough that there have been a few hiccups, I've never had any real problems, and the customer service line has always been extremely responsive. |
Yes, this was my problem. Mold on the raspberries. Soft onions. soft potatoes. It just became too much of a hassle to keep emailing Peapod after every delivery saying "OK, this time XYZ is rotten". So we stopped. But Peapod always did refund for the items that I claimed were bad without question - which is admirable. But, still, I didn't have the items I needed so it was another run to the grocery store. So I gave up. |
| We just used harris teeter's drive up service and it was great. We are in the burbs though, not sure if it is available everywhere. |
| An alternative is grocery service from South Mountain Creamery. Not cheap but neither is peapod. |
I've been ordering veggies from them in the winter when there are no farmer markets. Pretty good. Not cheap, but neither is WF. |

I tried ordering from them but three times in a row the truck 'broke down' and was unable to make the delivery (one time after waiting up until midnight in hopes that my 7-9 pm delivery would eventually come) and I was told I had to call the central number, wait on hold, and go to the end of the line for delivery. Oh, and one person insisted I now had to pay for the delivery since the 'free' first time delivery was used when I first scheduled. No matter that they failed to actually deliver. After three tries I said forget it.
So yes, I hate Peapod. |
| Yes, I hate peapod as well! I can't be waiting around hours after the "delivery window" that defeats the point of having to shop. No convenience in my book. |
|
So have any of you used the "drive-up" pea pod service, where it looks like I would just drive to Giant and have someone load my groceries into my car? It seems like that would be convenient, but I still worry about the fresh produce being gross -- and, like a PP said, I want this to eliminate my need to go shopping, and if I still have to go in and pick my own produce, there's no point...
|
| When they pick out fruit and vegies is it good pieces? |
| give relay foods a try..there are a couple threads about it in this forum |
| My peapod deliveries have never been late but what is delivered is never top quality, of anything. Canned goods are on the cut off of expiration, as are meats, and the produce is sub-par. I assume they do their best to get the things that are less likely to sell out on the Peapod deliveries because there's no picking and choosing. But it is convenient.... |
| If you are in the city, try Instacart. It's a new delivery service. You get to pick the store(s) you buy from, including Whole Foods and Costco. |
