I spent way too much on nursery bedding -- but didn't have to spend anything on furniture so figured I'd splurge! |
Hmmm, OP here. I was simply asking what other moms-to-be were excited about in the way of baby gear. Why not get some pleasure out of it? Lord knows 98% of my attention, research and shopping has been focused on the baby so I was excited to find something that I loved that still looked like my old life. Phoooey to all of you that get pleasure out of picking on people all over this stie or feel the need to put on your superiority hat and judge. Perhaps you need some retail therapy too or maybe just to take a deep breath or a walk and to relax. |
Well, to answer your question, I feel like I have bought a lot of baby-related things for "me." The best is the Bob Revolution. I like to run and wanted a jogging stroller that handled well. I could have bought a cheaper stroller that would have gotten the job done, but I wanted this one! |
Where do you get judgemental and bitter out of that post? Lacking taste maybe, although they did suggest Coach or Kate Spade. Everyone is entitled to what they like. I do not think that makes them bitter. |
Jeesh! Some of the comments are so silly. OP, I think if it makes you happy then good for you! I personally want a nice bag too, but got a diaper bag as a present that I think will work nicely. After I test it out, if it doesn't work I am buying my diaper bag ![]() But as for my expensive splurge, I bought an expensive pair of jeans. I have a heck of a time while not pregnant...I wasn't messing around now! And let me tell you....I wear them all the time and love every second! |
Good for you OP! Enjoy the bag. Personally, I could care less about what you want to spend your money on and if YOU like it, that's what matters. As for me, I have spent some money on pedicures (now I can really justify it as I can't do it myself at 35 weeks!) and massages. They made me feel good and I think that's a good thing for my baby. I also got a storksak diaper bag and I love it! Can't buy any of the new gray boots I want (feet JUST started swelling last week) so the bag is pretty satisfying. |
If you guys are going to be judgmental, could you all at least learn how to SPELL judgmental? Anyway, my splurge purchase was a doula. For three weeks I had someone to help me with the baby. Too bad she couldn't stay a few years... |

We've bought most of the stuff used or new (but cheap) on Ebay or friends have given us quite a bit of great baby gear/clothes/stuff.
However - we have had two large splurges (well, large to me). We bought a Bob Revolution stroller. My husband and I belong to a running group - he runs and I walk. But the group uses a lot of trails. We wanted something with brakes and something that could handle trails. My husband wanted it new - just to better ensure there would be no breakdowns. Baby is due next month - so for the first 4 months we'll get a converter bar that we can use the infant car seat with (and no jogging or trails). In the Spring - we'll use the stroller. I can't believe how light it is and it turns with just a push of one fingertip. We also spent almost (gulp) $700 on a rocker/glider that also reclines - all the way back to a sleeping position. It is large and fits my husband. He is 6 ft 4 in and most of the gliders out there just didn't fit him. We got one that is fully upholstered (sp?) and plan to use it for child #1 and if we have child #2. Once we're done using it in the nursery, we'll bring it down to the family room. It looks just like chair that would belong in a family room. We figure we can get many many years use out of it. So far, those have been our big splurges. |
My expensive Bob jogging stroller has been worth every penny. It has saved my sanity and waistline and allowed me to continue to run with my son, which I love. Congrats on the pretty bag![]() |
Because you can get years of use out of a stroller (and DH can "use" it too). Diaper bags sorta fall by the way side once baby goes from pooping 6x a day to 2x a day and so the probablility it will happen while running errands becomes less likely. Plus, most moms I know either leave the diaper bag in the car, don't bother carrying one (spare set up diapers in glove compartment), or the kiddos have a "predictable" pooping system. So, I guess that is why some responders are outraged that the OP is spending so much on something so "temporary". |
There are a lot of things I get outraged by these days. But I certainly don't see the point of being "outraged" by what another person spends her money on.
My biggest splurge would probably be my nursery furniture and decor. It's not like the baby will notice or get any benefit from it, but it's the prettiest room in our house. It makes me happy whenever I look at it, which makes it worth every penny to me. |
Poster 10/10 @ 8:05: What is the brand of your rocker/glider/recliner? I've had such a hard time finding one that will meet all of our needs, and yours sounds perfect. |
I'm the 8:05 PP - just saw your question today - hadn't been online all weekend.
The chair we bought I believe is a "Best Chairs" brand and we purchased it at Cradle & Crayon at the Reston Town Center in VA. It takes about 10-12 weeks for delivery (the company builds it once you order it). We picked the fabric we wanted - most of the fabric choices (and there are a lot) are easy to clean fabrics and stain resistant. I don't remember which model of chair/recliner we bought. |
LOL! I had to respond to this. You don't know my son! Our 4 mo DB poops 9 times a day. Yesterday at the pedi, he pooped twice in 30 minutes. ![]() |
