| H&M has a PrimaCotton line that feels great and mine are holding up well. |
I like this line, too, but they are very fitted and I think OP was hoping to avoid this. |
| I agree with Vince and James Perse, but they are definitely over $20. |

American Apparel might have what you're looking for. There are a bunch of AA stores around here - then you can find the same stuff on eBay for a fraction of the price.
And WTF is the deal with J Crew t-shirts getting those holes??? I won't buy their t-shirts anymore. Until the next time I do buy them, then get mad about the tiny holes. Damn you, J Crew. |
| Boden t-shirts are thicker cotton and wash well. I also recently bought a white Splendid t-shirt from Anthro that I like because it's longer and softer than most. |

I usually pick up a few at Marshall's, TJ Maxx, etc. They do wear out, depending on how often you wear them. But, they're cheap and you have a few. All sizes and shapes available.
I have had a Banana Republic tee that has lasted longer than my Gap tees, so maybe try that when next sale comes up. |
| I like the Boden basic T (maybe it's called Favorite or ORiginal?). Thick, longer, a little stretch to hold its shape but not clingy, slight scoop neck but not too low (I have ample cleavage and it doesn't show in these), usually around $22. I love these and buy a couple new ones every year. |
