Agree, but should have done this before tipping your hand. Now they'll know it was you. |
|
OP, they'll know it was you. Not worth it. I really think neighbors should be wise and choose their battles. This is a rather spiteful and inconsiderate geographical area, no?
I have to admit, it does sound petty, unless it is a gong of some sort. But I never understood why any neighbor would be stupid enough to put any nuisance on or bordering anyone else's property, call me crazy. You could very easily make them regret their lack of consideration.....very easily....have fun! |
I don't understand why they have the chimes if they don't even hear them at night. But then, I don't get chimes. Is the purpose to have bacground noise during the day, or to provide a soothing sound for sleep? |
| This happened to me. Excep our old neighbor had a 6foot wind chime and GONG combo! She travelled alot and it was this expensive Asian piece of "art." Drove me bat shit crazy! I got a white noise machine and it was fine. But, I'm not that big on opening the windows in the Spring because of allergies so I had that going for me. So glad we moved! So, I concur with the white noise suggestion. |
Exactly. I love wind chimes and they out me to sleep. But if I was asked to take mine down I would. Any kids in the neighborhood have bebee guns? |
| Stuff some cotton batting inside the pipes, that will muffle the sound a bit. |
| OP, if your community has HOA, the bylaws may address this. Email or call the HOA. |
| They're either selfish or clueless. Ask them to at least move them away from the bedroom area. |
| I don't understand. Why not at least try the white noise machine before resorting to more extreme measures (e.g., getting the HOA involved or resorting to self-help)? I really don't think you can ask them again. You asked them to move it once, and they declined. I don't see them suddenly changing their minds without a stronger reason to do so. |
| Take it down one night when they are at Applebees. |

OP, I bet you'll get used to it. We got this chiming mantle clock from my grandmother when she passed away, and while I LOVED the clock, I thought I was going to have to give it away at first b/c I was living on pins and needles, I was so unused to the chiming. At night, I'd like there, (it chimes every 15 mins), either bracing myself for the next chime, being startled or rattled by a chime, or recovering from a chime . . .and then the whole neurotic process would start again within the next 15 min period. On top of that, our pets were rattled by it as well. I thought, "I seriously need to get rid of this. I cannot live this way." Well, lo and behold, after about a week or so, I started not noticing the chimes. It was like a miracle. I literally did not even heard it anymore. I just go that used to it. Sometimes, my DH would say, "Did the clock chime on time?" and I"d have to say, "Gee, I don't know, I didn't notice."
So, all this is to say: I'd just give it a bit more time, and I bet you really won't notice it. Good luck. |
| I doubt I will get used to the chime. It is a very large metal chime and it really does not sound very pleasant. I have heard chimes at my MIL's house in California that I did not mind, but this thing is annying. In the Spring, I'm going to buy one and I will hang it from the outdoor lamp by my front door. Their bedroom is right above it. I'm positive, it will resolve the situation. I'm not going to invest money in a white noise machine. Why should I? Doesn't make any sense to me. |
Okay, you convinced me. I'm going to give it until Spring. Maybe I WILL get used to it. I'm also hoping that it will snow or rain a lot so that the darn thing will start rusting and they will take it down or maybe it'll just fall off by itself. Otherwise, I will buy one and install it on my front porch. |
I'm all about retaliation OP. It's on!
