| What happend to personal accountability? I know I am old school where you are responsible for your own actions and hardwork gets you ahead. .. Those days are gone. I am late 40s and have paid for my own birth control since college ... Didnt rely on the govt or my boyfriend. I knew my actions would directly impact my life and made choices accordingly. |
Viagra isn't free dipshit. Something that's covered means it's reimbursable to a certain degree, we're talking about free BC. |
It's sad that this is considered old fashioned. Thank you for being responsible. |
| But is the cost of birth control a mans issue? A baby means paying child support for 20 years. Why sleep with a man who is not willing to pay for it? |

Personal accountability is not the standard by which public policy is decided. If it were, the government would not provide vaccinations (which it does if you didn't know), there would be no public school (because you'd take responsibility for your children's education, right), no food stamps, no federal education loans, heck, no police or firefighters or judicial system. Instead, there is a cost/benefit calculation that is done. Is the benefit so overwhelming that the cost is worth it? I think in the case of birth control, the case is yes. |
It's so an old man can continue to think he is still relevant. |

Oh, and in this case, you are not getting birth control for free. The "cost" is whatever the cost is of mandating that insurance companies provide birth control under your (PAID FOR BY YOU) insurance plan. That seems pretty negligible to me.
I feel like this information is sort of wasted on the conservative posters on this thread. |

Wow some former GOP senate candidates have a new job as troll posters in political forums.
You should be a "tad more careful" Akin. |
| Economics would dictate that no western government should have an interest is population control given the dwindling numbers. We have to stay at replacement rate (2) to keep the economy moving. |
America is already growing at beyond the replacement rate. Other western governments are not part of this discussion. |
| The UN has said birth control is a human right. |
Perfect argument for immigration reform. Let's stop trying to turn away the people banging down the doors to get in. They are the ones who made america great to begin with. |
If you're paying for health insurance, its not free. Routine vaccinations are free for kids now. Do you think we should make parents pay out of pocket in the ped's office for that too? Besides, as previously posted, BCP are far cheaper for insurance companies to cover than prenatal care/birth. |

Women are the ones who can get pregnant. Biology and all that. Whether or not she can't do it alone is of no matter. Unless she is raped, she is the one who spread her legs so the responsibility ultimately is hers, like it or not. That's simply reality. Asking someone else to pay for that responsibility, when she had a choice to begin with, is ridiculous, because what you really are telling people to pay for, is a woman's right to have sex wherever and with whomever she wants.
So I'm supposed to mind my own business when person A has sex with person B, but I'm supposed to pay for it as well? |
