Who is paying for armed guards in every school?

I want tighter gun control, and yes, a ban on assault weapons. Will this happen? I hope so. I also personally would love to have an armed guard at my child's school. Sad, but I would. Does it have to be one or the other?

Yeah I guess I kind of feel the same way. And wouldn't it be awesome if Obama totally embraced the NRA's suggestion (and also banned semi automatic weapons from the public of course).

The NRA knows this won't go anywhere and they just want to blame Congress for not doing anything to prevent school shooting but saying they didn't follow their recommendation.

Taxing weapons is a great idea. Do it like Virginia taxes cars. You have to pay the tax every year to keep up the registration.

There was an armed guard at Columbine. He and Harris exchanged gunfire but neither hit the other.

Not sure an armed guard is the answer.

I would gladly give my hard earned money to a program that put police officers in every school. Much better than some of that pork we get shoved down our throats.

That seems to imply the federal government is supposed to pay for it. The article also notes there are at least 132,000 schools in the US. If we pay each armed guard about $100,000 (not sure the going rate for armed guards), that is a cost of $13 billion per year. Didn't realize the NRA had so much money...

Do it on a local level. Police, Sheriff, whatever. Taking an officer and placing them in the school for a three month rotation is not going to cost that much. It could be subsidized by the government, but I don't see why it would need to be a big bureaucratic nightmare.

... but I agree, there's no bureaucratic "nightmare"... just an expansion of the police state. Just hire more police. I think Homeland Security would be right for this job. Pay for it by taxing guns n ammo.

Not true. That was a responding police officer.

Columbine had two armed guards on duty. Vtech had police on campus. The Soviet Union had an army with 2.7 million men and did not stop the German in June of 41.
