Talk me out of this 2 bed basement co-op in Cleveland Park

Wow, that is small for 2 kids. The biggest problem is that 750 sq ft is small, but not terrible. The apt is really cut up. If it was open, it would be much better. You will be ready to strangle your kids and husband in 2 months.

I lived in a 1 BR condo which was 760 sq. ft. That is fine for 1 person, or 2. I wouldn't do it with 2 kids.

Is that the one where the FBI busted a Cuban spy a few years back?

We had friends who owned a unit in that building. They loved it. Whenever we visited, though, and sat in that narrow living room with the super-high ceiling, I always felt like I was in the trash-masher scene in the first Star Wars movie.

If you don't do much entertaining, it would probably be fine. The living room looks really tiny.

But some people have parking in McLean Gardens. When I bought in Ordway Gardens, I insisted on a parking spot. So glad I did! It was great to have parking at the door. I wouldn't buy a condo/house that didn't have parking.

You are right on. Strangely, though, DC's Office of Planning is proposing to eliminate off-street parking requirements for new condo and apartment construction in much of DC. They reason that everyone will magically take buses and Metro everywhere. Wrong. It's a recipe to shift private developer costs onto the backs of the public as more and more drivers compete for scarce space on the public streets. Way to impact the quality of life within several blocks of such "carless" (or is it "careless") new projects.

Actually, those sound like responsible new projects to me. You must live in Upper NW, which participates in an essentially suburban way of life that's no longer universally desired. In central neighborhoods, private cars are not a routine part of life, even for parents.
