looking for a great cookie recipe

Southern creams! Like a snickerdoodle, but better. I omit the walnuts entirely, because I don't like walnuts, which makes my version nut free:

You are the bane of the cookie exchange. I don't want to spend time making real cookies only to swap with a slug who throws a processed log on a cookie sheet and calls it a day. Plus, those tube cookie taste like crap. Though at least you're not as bad as the people who pick up a box of Safeway sprinkle cookies to bring.

I'm normally not a snot about things like this, but it pisses me off. The cookie part tastes nasty, and the whole joy of an exchange is the wonderful variety of interesting cookies you get to try.

The other cookie I can't stand is the peanut butter Hershey's kiss cookie. They must be easy to make because at least three or four people always bring them. But at lteas they're homemade.

Do you have a recipe for shortbread cookies?

I've been doing these for years - Brown Sugar Ginger Crisps:

(I also cheat and put two pans in the oven at a time.)

King Arthur Flour's shortbread recipe is the best, even better than Martha's.
the key is to use SALTED butter with confectioner's sugar. I usually mix in 2 tbsp orange or clementine zest w/ 1 tsp OJ instead of vanilla or almond extract. I do a dark chocolate (minimum 63% cacao content) glaze.
bonappetit.com Key Lime White Chocolate almond shortbread recipe is a real winner too. GL

YUM, PP, thank you. Doesn't look too ambitious but let me see if I can dig up some extra cash to pay for the Grade B maple syrup.
