Gift card amount for teachers

Anonymous
I do not like giving gifts to people that evaluate me or my kid because I do not like receiving gifts from people who I evaluate. I want there to be no misunderstanding that the evaluation is based solely on merit. No one should expect anything in exchange for the gift....if they do, it becomes a bribe.

With that said, I have no problem with whole class gifts, if it is clear it is from all and singles out no one.

Why is a whole class gift better? If I am give giving 25 or 50, I want the teacher to know it is from me and that OUR family really appreciates him/her. OP, give whatever amount you can afford.

No, there is no documented FCPS limit. Give as you wish. I bought a teacher a pricey gift one year for the end of year. Be generous, these folks are with your kids every day!

I work under the assumption that my kids' teachers are professionals whose regard cannot be bought for a basket of cookies and a $25 Barnes and Nobles gift card.

I think the class gift is better for everyone. The teacher gets a bigger gift and the parents don't have to spend as much per teacher. When you have three kids all of the teacher gifts and coach gifts start to add up. This year one of the room moms set up a splitzee and I was able to contribute by credit card which was so much better than having to write another check. I'm far from a room mother, but I went to splitzee.com and figured out how to set one up for the indoor soccer coach.

I had never heard of splitzee.com before.

It's one of those "how come nobody thought of this before" sites

I'm a parent of a Kindergartener. The room mom already collected money for a class gift card( I can't remember if it is for $50 or 100$ for the teacher and assistant) the collection came to a small amount each parent(like$7). But I'm sooooo used to giving to the previous preschool teachers. We would always give $50 to main teacher and 25$ assistant. And this is just from one family. There were always at least 15-20 kids in the classes so even if just 10 families gave this same amount it far exceeds what the elementary teachers are getting...

Does anyone give to the room parent fund( which is anonymous) AND give more(or a little gift) personally?

pre school teachers are severely underpaid, so i almost feel i am supplementing their income, so give bigger. like with my cleaning woman

ffx teachers are well educated, paid decent, and i feel like i am giving a gift, token of my appreciation. not supplementing the income.

i hope that did not come off condescending.

They're humans, too.

I give each teacher a $50.00 gift card and have my child write a nice letter of thanks.

This is a really good idea--I'm not aware of any lmit in Fairfax County. Recently, the room moms collected and gave teacher a $100+ gift card to Nordstroms for b-day (plus a party . . . on school time).

The $25 limit is per person. So $100 group gift is not out of control in my opinion. That's what it would be if everyone gave $10 each.

I think the poster meant, if you can't afford $25 give what you can afford, not give a lot if you can afford it.

Really? So if you give a teacher more than $25, thy return it. In the past 10 years i've given gifts between $35 and $100.
