Umm I close my children's doors and mine and I can hear them cry... And I wear ear plugs. My husband is another story. With my first when he was young we were in an apt in NYC. Now we are in a house in DC. I think Op is doing a good thing and letting her LO learn to sleep well. I pretty sure she would wake for the barf/crying people seem so worried about. |
Let me start by saying I have a video monitor that I am slightly obsessed with.
That being said, I am pretty sure most of our mothers didn't have access to monitors and we all turned out ok. Give OP a break already. |
Pretty sure our mothers did not close all the doors and left us in the pitch black. |
Well we don't have monitors for upstairs (only one in the basement) and we close the baby's door at night. We leave our room's door ajar. We can hear everything. But we also live in a small townhome. It is unclear from OPs post if she can hear or not. We also have a night light in our baby's room. |
hello, Op here. we live in a small SFH. our wall on the same wall as the crib. if she is crying, we will hear it through the wall. there is no need to hear it through 2 open doors as well. no this isnt neglectful in my opinion because, if your baby threw up in the middle of the night, unless you were watching them (awake) for the entire time they slept, you wouldnt know anyway. |
If you can hear her cry, I guess it's no worse than standard CIO. What makes you think, though, that she cries because she is "bored" vs "wants snuggles/touch/comfort/reassurance"? |
at 10 months, she needs to sleep already. I don't think I'd care what she wants, I need to sleep. She can get over it....nothing wrong with a little boredom or even loneliness. |
Of what culture are you? |
This is neglectful. No question. |
I don't understand...what is wrong with your 10mo. sleeping in her crib in her own room? Of course the lights are off so it's dark. And big deal if the door is closed. It keeps the room quieter.
All of 4 of our children were in their own crib in the nursery from Day 1. Lights were out and door closed at night. I'm not getting what this post is trying trying to ask. |
Im tbe PP who mentioned puking. If you have a monitor you can hear your baby the wowing up for sure. It has happened to us more than once. Not sure you can hear it through the wall. Poor kid! |
Us too! Not sure when dark and quiet at night started to be a bad thing! |
Another one wondering what, exactly, is the OP asking? What was the point of the first post? Because if she can hear perfectly, who cares if 2 doors or 10 doors are closed. And if there is a monitor or not. And if her kid isn't crying, then why would she go in?
Did anyone else do this? No, lady. Nobody else on the planet ever let their kid sleep in their own room in the dark and didnt go to the kid if they didn't cry. Nobody, ever. |
+1 How else would your child (infant or baby or toddler) if it's not dark and not in his/her own room? Especially since OP mentioned her kid was 10mon. already. She should've done this months ago. |
+1. Huh, OP? So is the thing she is worried about the DARK, in that case? My 2.5 year old still sleeps without a nightlight. Kids generally don't develop a fear of the dark until later (if ever), I think. I don't think most 10 mo. olds need night lights-- parents use them so we can see if we are getting up in the night to feed or change diapers or whatever. |
