| Keep thinking no biggie if it keeps raining like this all through the night & into tomorrow |
| It is not going to hit the Washington area till after 12am. |
Pretty sure 12 am is when it starts dying down again. |
| I'm totally underwhelmed in Alexandria! Is the worst over? Wondering at what point we can say we are in the clear w/no power outage? |
|
35 mph wind in Alexandria

| Annoyed that there is no coverage of Fairfax! |
| There doesn't seem to be much happening right now in Fairfax. I can't even hear rain on the window unless the wind blows. |
| McLean here. We have 140,000 homes without power in NoVa., 400,000 in Maryland. We still have power but are in a pocket of homes with power encircled by homes without power. No tree issues but we had the tree folks through before the storm and cut down the iffy trees. What really is astonishing is what is happening in NYC right now. Most of Manhattan is without power. The 86th street subway tunnel has flooded up to the platform. Homes on staten Island are severely damaged and there were no first responders. The New Jersey National Guard has been called up. Greenwich, CT is being evacuated. And - drum roll - Letterman did a show without an audience tonight. Will be interesting to see this morning's news reports. |
This is what I thinking. Our neighborhood in MoCo got it's butt kickEd by the derecho. The winds this time were not nearly the same. I do agree that NY and NJ really got hit hard with this one. And the flooding seems to be more of an issue than the wind. Hope things get back to normal for everyone soon. |
| So far we are very lucky. Still have power, and we always lose power for days with things like this. The Derecho last summer was far worse at this point. |
| I think the derecho "trimmed" the trees along the power grid, and that is why so many of us still have power. Once I can see better I am going to check the yard and make sure none of the trees are leaning over. That ground is really wet. |
| I think you are an asshole for posting this ridiculous post, OP. Did you see what happened in NY? Count your blessings. And maybe you should donate to the relief effort in NY to up your karma. |
| Maybe OP would like the "thrill" of cleaning up the water leak in my bedroom. |
Um, have you seen the most recent reports of NY? The waters have receded; people are out walking their dogs and cars are on roads that were flooded a few hours ago. |
|
Very grateful. Last night the wind was roaring, house as shaking, power was out, and I couldn't sleep for visions of a tree coming down on my kids.
I think this guy is not underwhelmed. There but for the grace of god, OP. http://www.capitalgazette.com/news/for_the_record/fire-official-man-killed-when-tree-falls-on-house/article_5abe9eb6-bba3-5a56-ab5b-ace4f46a6aa6.html |
