If the pumping station's backup generator doesn't start up, or if it runs out of power, there can be loss of pressure and/or contamination in the pipes. There were boil water advisories in the Falls Church section of Fairfax after the derecho. We will be filling our tub and our 5-gallon camping containers for this one. |

Go to your wine cellar, and if you don't have a sump pump, move the bottom 3 or 4 rows to higher rack space.
And have a corkscrew on your person at all times. |
This. Most important item: red red wine!!! |
| I'm thinking I should turn all my perishable eggs into non-perishable brownies and cookies. |
Really? |

My perishable butter, eggs, and milk are in the oven right now becoming a pound cake.
Otherwise we have bread, pb, popcorn, chips, apple sauce, fruit snacks, dried fruits, canned soups (no need to add water), and of course, water. |
| Eggs aren't that perishable and butter's not rapidly so. In fact, I'd take 'em out of the fridge ahead of time and then you can make scrambled eggs and such (if your stove is gas) without opening the fridge and letting the remaining cool out. |
Your eggs will actually last about a week, even if they've already been refrigerated. That said, my husband did buy me some brownie mix - we have a gas stove, so we plan to use the oven to heat up the house if the power goes out! |
| Anyone planning on cold pasta or would that be gross? Wasn't able to get frozen pizzas yesterday and am thinking of making 1-2 servings of pasta and putting it in the fridge so we don't have to go to PB&J and the like immediately. Do I just boil it and leave it plain or mix in tomato sauce now? |
