What do you eat when you're feeling light headed and shaky

That can be too much, too fast. The tab can solve the "shakes" but you probably should follow up with nuts or something that digests more slowly.

skip the oj--lots of acidity. skip the milk--dairy will make you congested

clear broth and plenty of fluids; plain crackers.

I was going to say chocolate milk too and I disagree with this. Milk may make YOU congested, but it doesn't have that effect on everyone.

"Although drinking milk may make phlegm thicker and more irritating to your throat than it would normally be, milk doesn't cause your body to make more phlegm."

If you're shaky and feeling like you're coming down with something--don't eat anything that will be worse coming back up.

It MAY. Again, doesn't have that effect on everyone.

If you are lightheaded and shaky because you are overweight and dieting and haven't eaten for a bit, wait it out. Your body doesn't know how to easily switch to metabolizing fat and it is complaining about learning.

If you are simply short calories, eat protein. Greek yogurt--unsweetened or with fruit, meat, nuts, cheese.

If you are diabetic and on meds, take your blood sugar. If under 70, or under 80 and you feel bad, eat a protein-carb snack such as a few pb crackers, a pudding cup, or half a meat sandwich. Drink 4-6 oz of regular soda or fruit juice. Let your MD know so you can adjust your meds if this happens frequently.

Hmm so fat people can't pass out, huh?

Lots of Pro-Ana posters here, huh?

Eat properly and you won't feel like that. If you do eat properly and feel like this, go to the doctor - something is going sideways.

Uh, yes. That was bullshit advice up in there. If you are dieting and hypoglycemic, you do the same thing you would do otherwise - protein and a complex carb. Apple and cheese or peanut butter if that suits you.

Not oddly, according to Chinese medicine. Hypoglycemia is an expansive problem and salt is strongly contractive. Same reason why salty soup or salted black beans are best for hangovers.

A banana and an egg. The banana helps with the severe hand cramps I get too.

Seriously, if you are having frequent episodes of lightheaded shakiness, you need to get a glucometer and see what is going on. If you normally live at a glucose of 120-130 and your BG hits 80, you might feel bad. But if you aren't taking medication that would further drop your glucose levels, it's ok to wait it out a bit, recheck in 10 minutes and see what's going on. Your body releases insulin, assuming that your pancreas works, both in anticipation of food and in response to food: so if you ate a high carb snack, and you overreacted and released more insulin than you needed, you might feel shaky when you run out of glycogen. At that point, your body has to switch to gluconeogenesis, or making glucose out of stored fat. Those pathways take a little while to show results, though, especially when your body isn't used using them. That's why the suggestion to wait. If you feel worse, recheck your sugar, bearing in mind that 60 is adequate and 70 is great.....

YES! Basically I have to stay far far away from sugar when this happens.

Are you sure you don't really have an appetite? I've found that if I wait too long to eat, I sort of feel like I have no desire to eat, but I'm still technically hungry. (this happens occasionally when I'm swamped at work and didn't bring my lunch, but haven't had time to run out and pick up something.) You might not think you have an appetite because nothing sounds good to you, but I bet you're probably still hungry and something will taste good.
