When will skinny jeans go away? And what can I wear in the meantime?

Fit your ass. Alter the waist.

Look, I grew up in the 80's. Even as a middle schooler, I knew that I couldn't wear a cropped boxy shirt over spandex leggings. My butt was too big.

And even now, I see plenty of girls who should NOT be wearing skinny jeans/pants.

I have your body type, OP, and I like Lucky Jeans. I stay 'current' by wearing longer tunic tops or dresses with leggings and boots. But when I wear jeans, they are boot cut. I'd rather be judged 'Wow those jeans are totally not skinny enough' than 'Wow does she realize how big her butt looks in those pants???'

I cannot wear skinny jeans because I have very short legs for my body and thunder thighs (hello to all you ex-gymnasts out there!)

My compromise is true straight leg -- you can test by folding up the jeans at the knee and compare the lower 1/2 to the upper/thigh 1/2. If they're identical in width, that = straight.

Are super-skinny jeans even a trend still? When are they going to get old?

skinny jeans are now a classic cut. they will NEVER go out of style. They are the only type of jeans you can wear tucked into boots, another classic look. I have seen very curvy women wear skinnies. The key is to balance the top you wear to highlight your upper body. The skinnies don't have to be skintight, super skinny jeans. I agree with PP that you should fit your hips/butt/legs and alter the waist.

That said, straight legged jeans or bootcuts are not "out of style." If you are short, make sure to wear bootcuts with a heel of some type (wedges even). If you don't, you'll look shorter and even dumpy (even if you're skinny).

Finally, if I could rid the DC area of one fashion "don't" it would be women that wear tennis shoes with jeans. Invest in a pair of comfy ballet flats, a great pair of riding boots or, if you must wear a tennis shoe, go for a puma trainer or puma ballet flats.

Bootcut are just fine. Straight leg are just fine.

I soooooo agree.

Unless you are a member of the Rolling Stones circa 1965--please put them away.

They make your body look strange.

Since both of these looks had completely disappeared for 25 years before appearing back on the scene again five or so years ago, I have trouble thinking of them as classic.

I have fought the skinny craze as well because I am a similar shape. However, I recently bought a pair of cords that are skinny to wear with flat boots and my husband LOVES it. I suppose that is a good enough review.

I'm 5'4" tall. Run and yoga every day. Flat stomach. Tight butt. Nicely shaped thighs. I can't wear skinny jeans because I have 14-15" calves!!! I wish I could. I love all the bright colors and fun prints. But while they flatter me from the knee up.....my calves look like they've been stuffed in like sausages. Forget about boots. Sigh.

Regarding Gap jeans, you may want to check out the side-by-side pics in this.

That chick SELLS jeans. Not quite an honest evaluation, and strangely enough, the model looks better in all the ones she sells!

I wear straight leg or cigarette jeans rather than skinny jeans. The cut is more forgiving. Also, try them on in a size that's comfortable for your hips and thighs and then have the waist tailored if need be.

What do you wear to the playground with your kids?

Not the pp you're asking, and I hope she answers because I'd like new ideas, but I wear loafers, sandals, or the aforementioned puma ballet/mary jane shoes.

I think jeans with tennis shoes look fine if you're dressing down. It's jeans with sneakers (think workout shoes) that look tragic.
