Mom gets 99 years for gluing daughter to wall

I really wish people would stop using the headline "Mom given life sentence for gluing daughter to wall". She was given the sentence for beating her daughter into a coma, among many other examples of abuse. Of course, that wouldn't sell the story nearly as well, and it is all about the ratings/clicks/pageviews/etc.

Someone who beats a 2-yo into a coma is just as bad as Sandusky. If someone did that to my child, it would take every moral fiber in my body not to kill them.

I agree completely. If you read the article, and maybe watched the videos, and found all of what she did, I can't believe you would consider this excessive.

And someone said that the fact that race might have something to do with it. I am white, and hope and pray that if I were ever to be capable of doing such terrible things to my own child, that I was put away for life. Not even necessarily just for punishment, but so that I wasn't around my or anyone else's children.

While her crimes were horrific, I think the sentence was a bit harsh. 10 years seems appropriate. I don't think the maternal grandmother should have the kids though. It's likely she'll take them to visit the daughter.

People talk about California, but let me tell ya, as someone who lived in TX for a few years as a small child, TX is the land of crazy. I think we should let those wingnuts secede already. And they can't take the morons they elect to public office with them. Buy bye!

OH God that is soooo sad and heartbreaking! Why does this happen??? What would cause someone to beat a 2 year old due to potty training, cause brain bleeding and glue hands to the wall. This makes me so sick!!!

Yikes, I meant the grandmother SHOULDN'T have the kids.

I don't. She was guilty of attempted murder, child abuse and cruel and unusual punishment. And another thought. While rape and murder are horrific crimes, those are committed against adults who have some ability to defend themselves and to think and look for opportunities to save themselves. A innocent child has no such defenses. A child relies on its parents/guardians for safety and nurturing, has no understanding that they can or should defend themselves. It is the ultimate betrayal by the most trusted person who should protect them. As Dante would say, the ninth circle of hell is reserved for treachery and betrayal. This mother appropriately belongs there, but fortunately, here in the secular world, we can only place her in prison.

that poor child. peace to her; i hope she lives a happier life from this point forward.

and i agree with PP. crimes against the defenseless and vulnerable should receive the harshest penalties. children, elderly, animals, etc.

It wasn't just for gluing the child to the wall but she was physically abusive that lead to significant trauma. Good for the judge!

I'm glad they nailed her, seriously! Reading that story and watching all of the videos gave me serious nausea. This woman is sickening and I hope that she is never able to see her children again.

I watched the testimony of the mom on the stand. It was terrible. Apparently her mom was abusive to her as a child.

What I do think is terrible, is it appeared that the mom knew what she was doing was wrong and likely need help to stop but of course that can't happen. There is no one to call and say "hey I kick my kid constantly and slap her and I want to stop. Can I get help?" bc as soon as that happens, CPS takes the kids.

Well, that punishment could be OK if it was murder. But we have Casey Anthony as a free woman, and now this.
Murder and homicide is supposed to have a stiffer penalty than abuse

I read that women tend to get much longer sentences for things involving child abuse or sex than men. It's sexism based on social stereotypes that women are good and pure and the protectors of children.

Couldn't it be attempted murder? The girl almost died. The mother was throwing milk jugs at a 2 year old and kicking her in the stomach.
