Any feds getting out early today?

You do realize that the American taxpayers are picking up the tab for your early dismissal. So while we are working our buts off, the deficit is growing larger and you are getting additional paid time off. Really?

I've been a Fed for 18 years and we have NEVER gotten out early before Columbus day. Not a chance. I certainly don't expect it.

Just to make this more political.

Under the last administration at my agency (last 4 years under Bush), the Chairman was a complete prick and totally political in every decision he made, seriously had a complete lack of interest in facts or data. BUT, he let staff off 3 hours early for almost any excuse you could think up, "minor" long weekends included. Administrative staff really liked him.

I like the current Chairman much more from an integrity and policy perspective (in no way perfect), but we only get early dismissal before "major" holiday long weekends and usually 2 hours. Neither Columbus Day nor Veteran's Day will qualify. I would choose someone whose moral standards I can respect over an extra 3 hours here or there any day.

Most of the world doesn't even get Monday off!!

Nope. The only time we get off early (2 hours or so) are Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve and July 3.

Our management under Bush Administration was much more generous with early dismissal.

Bush did like his time off!

Well my agency granted 59 early dismissal but I put in an 11 hour day. And come to think of it I routinely put in 10-11 hour days and I DO NOT GET PAID for it. Does that make you feel any better? For those who take off early I (and many other feds) make up for your loss in tax dollars by working 50-60 hour weeks ALL OF THE TIME and do not get overtime pay, a bonus, or even much of a raise.

Nope. Didn't even get out on time and will probably work on Monday.

To those of you whining about your taxpayer dollars . . . if I actually put on my timesheet all the hours I work each week, I'd be getting paid a heck of a lot more. To the tune of 20 hours overtime per pay period. Would you prefer we start doing that, asshole?

Used to work at an office where everyone came in all the time. Everyone would be at the office on a day like this. It was not an enjoyable workplace or work but workers came so they wouldn't get behind and get fired. One of the few agencies that would actually fire workers.

I'd much rather have the Friday after Thanksgiving or 2 days at Christmas like the rest of the world. No extra time off at IRS today...

Have you gotten a raise or a bonus in the past 3 years? I haven't, thanks to "the American people" who seem to have some say on my performance.

Agreed, no overtime and I work 50-60 hours a week. Maybe the whinny American tax payers should start paying for that. Lets treat the fed like a big business I'm ALL for it.

Maybe you're having to work 10-11 hour days because you're spending time jacking around on the Internet when you should be working.

Yup. Gotta love the voluntary overtime that is standard practice in some offices. VOT = slave labor.
