Is tilapia a fancy meal for kids??

Tilapia is the boneless chicken breast of the fish world. It's the opposite of fancy. It's the only fish salmon can look at and say, "Really? How blah can you get?"

She probably just feels bad that her kids eat nothing but chicken nuggets and macaroni and cheese.

One of the proteins that we mix in periodically is tilapia. I get it in individual portions at Sam's club and we just lightly steam it in the microwave. They like it. It's just one of the various proteins that we give them.

Who knew that we were giving one year old toddlers "fancy meals"?

Lightly steamed tilapia in the microwave?? Oh dear. Could anything be worse than that?

I'm not sure you can "lightly steam" something in the microwave. That aside, kudos to the PP for starting to give her kids on a variety of foods early on - that's fantastic.

Tilapia?

I think it might be the difference between being asked "what are the kids having for dinner?" and answering "fish" versus answering "tilapia".

Heavens, no. Not a fancy meal for anyone.

Tilapia is one of the least expensive and most bland fishes. Fancy? No. But good for OP for giving it to her kids.
Salmon is fancier, only because it's more expensive.

I agree with another poster in that OP's SIL probably has never heard of tilapia. It's only become a part of the nation's jargon in the last 10 years.

Tilapia is the only real fish my kids will eat. I don't count fish sticks.

Dover Sole is fancy. Tilapia....not so much.

Your sister is probably one of those people who only serves her children "kid food" like chicken nuggets and fish sticks. IMO, this is the wrong way to do things and your kids should eat what you're eating. And in no way is tilapia fancy food - in my household, it's a normal dish. So way to go, OP, keep on serving your kids what you're eating and not making anything extra for them!

Tilapia isn't a great fish for anyone, especially kids. Do some googling and research. Too much bad stuff in there, not recommended. It is all farmed, lives in waste, awful.

I agree, or she doesn't eat/serve fish to her family.
