Verizon FIOS vs. Comcast cable internet

I tell everyone who will listen to avoid Comcast at all costs. We signed up for a bundle deal last year and it's been a nightmare! Poor service, equipment that doesn't work, bills that are always incorrect. I HATE COMCAST and they should be ashamed of their poor customer service. Now we can't rid ourselves of them. They claim we signed a two year contract (we did not) and they want to charge us a huge fee to cancel them. One of our neighbors had the same issue and Comcast put something negative on their credit by claiming they had a contract they never signed. Trust me. AVOID COMCAST. Sorry to hear Verizon isn' t much better... someone needs to regulate these con artist better.

In Bethesda you can also have Starpower.

Bump!

We are thinking of switching for Verizon Fios Triple Play (similiar to Comcast) for about $100 price difference. They have a special now for $89.99. I have not called and asked specifics so the final price might not be that much lower, but is the customer service that bad? should I switch?

We have Comcast just for broadband, use Directv for tv and Verizon for landline. For just broadband, Comcast has been okay but I can't speak to the other issues with bundled packages that people have raised. The problem is that it's much more expensive to use different services for for these different items but at least I don't feel trapped like some people do.

IDK, I've always heard horror stories about Verizon's customer service but I haven't had a bad experience with them yet. We've had FiOS' Triple Play bundle for about 2.5 years and there have been problems but they've been handled with very few hassles. Even when I called and told them our package was too expensive and we were considering switching they were nice. The agent I spoke with found me a better and cheaper package, despite the HD upgrade we needed.

Comcast on the other hand. We finally switched a few years ago after consistently having our internet go out first occasionally, then weekly, then every other day and they still refused to send out a tech. Having worked in retail and customer service, i go out of my way to be polite when calling help lines, but I finally snapped after the 5,000th call to them where they insisted it was something we did, and that I needed to waddle my third trimester ass down the steep basement steps to look at the box and tell her what was wrong.

Before we were with Comcast we had RCN. I think the only reason we switched was that Comcast had a slightly cheaper package with more channels maybe. Mistake.

We've had both and I prefer FIOS. Both are huge companies and their customer services are terrible. but FIOS TV goes out less often and I think we've had only one glitch with it in two years (when we ordered an on-demand movie). We've never had problems with the free on demand, the phone or the internet or wi-fi or the dvr.

comcast used to crap out on us or crash all the time and I think we had like 6 boxes.

I think $89 sounds pretty good. I had $99 for a two-year contract starting in 2007. Now I'm up to $109 (renegotiated with them after 2 years or it would have gone up to $139), plus all the assorted fees. The first three bills were all wrong after the new contract. Same frustrations as everyone else with customer service. But since then all has been well and I haven't had to contact them.

I now see the orange cables going in our neighborhood and can't wait to switch to FIOS. We have RCN (starpower) which used to be great but now is horrible.
