Middle School Crystal Ball - Look forward to 2015/16 School year

Kelly Miller is on the right track to reestablish itself as a phenomenal school by 2015-16. The current principal was a former assistant principal at Banneker. He is taking one step at a time but he's making significant gains and accomplishments. I strongly encourage you to visit Kelly Miller and get a feel of the school. Quiet as it is kept they will be another jewel in the crown of marvelous middle-schools.

I have a feeling this is word-salad-Eastern-booster. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

But thanks. The private school tuition payment is due and even though we can't afford it, I read stuff like this and realize it's worth every penny.

Marvelous middle schools in DCPS... Hee!

sorry, but Deal IS marvellous, IMO
Adams has some issues, but not even at Basis/Deal/Sidwell/Cathedral is a 6th grader able to study 2 useful modern languages (Spanish and Mandarin) to fluency

Fluency? You speak Mandarin fluently and use it to chat with YY kids? I do and fluent is not in the cards. They are building a good ES foundation in Mandarin but can only get so far with 2.5 days a week of instruction, without more than a handful of bilingual peers and parents involved, and generally without families who can afford Mandarin summer camps and trips to China. We left YY for Sidwell for lack of rigor in English instruction, and the absence of a Chinese-speaking community suporting the school, but speak Mandarin at home and on annual trips to visit relatives in China. No concerns about being left in the dust by the YY crowd, thanks. We are concerned about affording privates for two kids from 2015+ if we strike at at Latin and/or Basis so will probably move to burbs. We're IB for SH - forget it, rowdy kids, little ability grouping, weak facilities and teaching.

Deal kid are getting a light dose of Mandarin, heavy on the culture. The idea that they will be fluent is a joke. Not unlike the ideal that there are lots of desirable middle schools in DCPS.

And so now you need rant on these boards about places you've obviously never set foot in so as to create the reality that you need to feel better about your pricy decision? Why don't you go live with it and leave the rest of us to figure out the decisions that happen to work for us.

Here we go again with this arrogance of no middle-school(s) could possibly be ready by 2015. It's a crystal ball look and not a concrete look. So, what if I am the Eastern salad booster...have I been wrong about Eastern? You're probably already high Clarice? There's no need to share my weed with you because your paranoia has already set in.

DCI should be up and running by then. Not sure how it will impact the move by language immersion kids and other entering the lottery. I imagine that will be a "wait and see" year.

"have I been wrong about Eastern?"

Um. Yes. You and Kaya can keep on dreaming though.

Smart money says Kaya will be long gone by 2015.
