Do you wash all of your kids clothes before they wear them?

I do, but only because of a house episode I watched a few years ago. Two kids got sick from a chemical on jeans they bought from a bootlegger. Yes, I know it is far-flung tv, but it's easy enough to wash stuff first.

Yes, I wash everything before we use it. Can't stand the chemical smells and don't like imagining all the people who tried it on before me in the store.

Yes, the manufacturer sprays them with a chemical finish that helps them look better in the store and prevents mildew. No need to put that next to a baby's sensitive skin, and I don't really like it either.

Yes, of course. Especially for DS. I bought a suit for myself recently and didn't wash it but I do everything else.

Only when they were babies.

After looking at all the YES responses, I'm starting to wonder if I should start, but I think it's too late.

Yes. I always do. Never used to, but then I heard that clothes can get filthy in the way to the store. Now I wash everything.

I wash all clothes before wearing unless I am really desperate - and it is something like socks. But they feel different new - like there is something on them. And lets face it, I have no idea who has done what to them. I know people on here post that it is a waste of water, but honestly, I don't buy that many new clothes, and its not like I do a separate load of one piece of clothing. I either do a batch of new clothes or throw them in with other clothes.

NO! DD is 4 and even if she "approves" what I buy, I don't believe it until she willingly wears it. Then and only then do I cut the tags and she wears it once before washing. This started around 3.

Yes. Always have for everyone in house. Can't imagine wearing unwashed new clothes.

Yes. Although I also generally wash all of my clothes and my husbands as well before we wear them initially.

Never.

Absolutely.

Yes. Many vendors actually put starch, fragrances and/or chemicals onto clothes for presentation in the store. One of our household is allergic to some chemical fragrances. And the starch can be irritating to our kids skin. Plus the fact that in many stores, other patrons may try clothes on and may have left something on the clothes, for instance, you don't know if someone was sweaty or wore perfume or had skin problems tried on the clothes. And I've heard of people who don't wear underwear trying on pants...ick. We wash all clothes that come into the house before the first wear.

I dont for myself. I did for my baby, so got in the habit of doing it for all the kids stuff. Now sometimes i will skip it for my 4 year old, but am still a stickler for washing for our baby. I imagine i may stop doing it as the kids get older.
