Jeff, can we please get a "like" button?

I don't see the value of a like button. The +1 is adequate and the outraged +1 haters can just skip those posts.

Not really. The +1 has the effect of bumping a thread to recent topics. Thinking that there is a substantive new addition to a thread I"m following, I'll click on the thread, only to find one of those plus ones. I think Jeff's point earlier is right - what purpose, in an anonymous forum, does a +1 serve. I don't mind people watching and cheering on the sidelines. But if you're going to get into the game, do something meaningful . . .

please don't! When someone likes something I've written, I prefer that they quote it and have a conversation back with me. A "like" button removes some of that. If you really like something, take a tiny bit of effort and just say so (and say why!). I try to do that for other people and enjoy when folks do it for my posts.
