Mayor Vincent Gray commented on 9/17/12 in the run-up to the Grand Opening, "With children from nearly every ward, Meridian’s increasingly successful academic program and new facility exemplify the One City we are creating together, where every child in every neighborhood has an opportunity to get a high-quality education."

D.C. Councilmember Jim Graham added, "This is a great new step in the long history of Harrison School. Meridian has worked hard and successfully to bring this building back to life!"

When construction team finishes all of the detailing, it will be freed up for surfacing and purchase of features. The enclosed playground is still a work in progress that could use some support.

Holmes Norton and Vincent Gray made news at Meridian's packed event today. Incredible levels of support for an "alternative system" in the form of charter schools. Stunning.

Meridian is unsafe and the homework is a joke - is not about the space, people. It's about the instruction and security.

What is unsafe about Meridian? Quality of instruction and scores are rising.

I would like to see any incident reports the poster might have from MPD's Third District for the ten years at the old location in Florida Avenue's Manhattan Laundry building (now sub-leased to Inspired Teaching and Shining Stars) or at 13th and V, NW. Also, please provide your thoughts on homework and level of rigor.
