The K teacher may be leaving (I don't even know if that's true, but let's pretend it is) but he or she could not have been "fired." If you don't know the story, then be quiet. The teacher could have been a long term sub for another position, being used as a K teacher, or the allocation could have been lost, or the teacher could be taking leave, or the "teacher" may even be a volunteer. Your neighbor whose friend "is there" is not really a credible source. This is really inappropriate to gossip about.

My son is in the K class that is getting a new teacher. I think people need to have a little respect. The letter and email mentioned long term leave which necessitated a new teacher...made it sound like the leave time might be somewhat open ended. Who knows what happened but did you ever think the teacher could be sick or caring for a family member...

She might be sick or caring for a family member on top of being a really bad, really disorganized teacher. I was lying about the neighbor part so as not to identify myself. This teacher is horrible and has been doing her students a disservice. Very happy to hear she's been removed from the situation. Surprised that it happened considering how hard it typically is to get rid of a bad apple. And of course it's gossip. What did you think you were getting on a site where we all post anonymously?

And you know this because...??? Gossip mongers/parents who think they know everything about everything are reasons why many teachers say, "Thank you for the offer, but I really don't need any parent volunteers at the moment." I agree with the PP...your credibility is shot to hell lady

Shame on you, gossipy lady.

Why would I need credibility? Just posting the truth. You can take it or leave it. Doesn't matter to me either way. Hope that K class gets a better teacher for the second half of the year. Good luck in your crappy SS schools losers!

Nice one lady! Is this how you teach your children to speak to others? Guess what? Your children repeat what you say when they are at school. Some thoughts to consider...

Whether your accusation is true or not, the outcome of spreading it can be damaging. How many K teachers are there at this school? 2? 3? 4? Anyone can go online and find a staff list from a school's website, and thus come up with a short list of names. Why is it that you feel the need to talk poorly about this person? What is the purpose of your online accusation? Rumors and gossip can really mess with someone’s life. It can cost them friendships, or maybe even a job. Spreading gossip is mean and spiteful. Spreading rumors is uncalled for. What’s that phrase? What goes around comes around? I am a classroom teacher and I always tell my students that if we don’t have something nice to say we don’t say anything at all, and if we hear unkind rumors or gossip we do not pass it on. Responsible adults do not spread rumors and gossip. You sound like a person who just lives to wreak havoc in other people’s lives – SHAME ON YOU!

I know absolutely nothing about this situation BUT I assure you that there are some parents in the loop at each and every school who know what's going on. The PTA moms who volunteer in my kids school several times a week know the scoop....so it is very possible that someone at fs knows the real reason why the teacher is leaving. Tough to get fired in mcps, but not as tough to be put on administrative leave (while the investigate or try to move a bad teacher along). Again, I don't know anything about this situation, but I wanted to chime in to say that some parents who are super involved at school oftentimes are privy to otherwise private info (especially if they are friendly with the secretary or another teacher).

Well, I am glad I don't work at any of these schools. I can say with certainty that my colleagues (including the secretaries) would NEVER spread gossip or share confidential information with parents. Ever. It's not professional.

Wow, I haven't been on this site for a while, and I thought to myself "hey, let's give it another chance. Maybe there is something useful to learn here about my neighborhood schools." And this was the first thread I clicked on.

When I turn off the computer, I will go back to living in the actual Silver Spring with warm neighbors, a school we love, and none of these imaginary problems. This poster will continue living in her world of spite and anger.

Honestly, it might not be gossip. There could have been an incident and the parent whose child was involved would certainly know if the teacher was being placed on admin leave. Similarly, the parents of other kids who might have observed an incident might have followed up with the principal and been told how it was being handled. If the teacher was going out on medical leave, then the letter probably would have stated medical leave...and the room parent might have organized a gift or even meals, etc. If the teacher suddenly disappeared during the holidays and all the info being shared is that she is on extended leave and there will be a new teacher for the rest of the year, and parents with kids in the class seem to have access to other reliable explanations, then they are probably right.

Okay - so sum up. Who likes Flora Singer? Bunch of posts say "yes"! One post says "Like it better than OTES" Why? Weird and inconsistent response - From - "neighbor said firing a K teacher - oh, no!" to "oh, I am the neighbor. Teacher may have leave, may be fired for being bad" and finally "good luck in your crappy SS schools" (um, wait, I thought you were the neighbor/actual person in said crappy SS school - guess there is a troll post in there somewhere).

Conclusion: People like Flora Singer. Other conclusion: OTES is losing a K teacher for some reason. If leave, sorry to see him/her go. If performance, then looks like school is taking action - also good.

Disclosure - I am an OTES parent. Loved the K teacher my child had (and is one of the remaining teachers) and love our current teacher. Have friends with kids at Flora Singer (so no first hand knowledge) but they all love it as well. Pros and cons compared to OTES - some miss certain teachers/ administrators. Love the campus and so far good experience with current teachers. Heartwole (principal) had first pick with interviewing teachers before the general school year process so hear he created a nice staff.

Any other feedback on Flora since that is what the post is asking for?

Oh, and "one of the remaining teachers" means one of the four currently listed. Don't know who is leaving and don't know why.
Anonymous
Wrong, pp. flora singer lost the k teacher, not OT. I know teachers at both schools, and from what they've told me both schools are excellent.
