Arlington Zoning Changes Likely

Anonymous
My husband said we will just sell our house and move if they f@ck with our zoning. Things are going in a day right now and we are probably close to a market peak anyways. We both are fortunate to be able to work anywhere. I WAH.

Especially since ASF is a highly sought after specialty school, the school board would likely grandfather in all students if boundary changes were to take place in the future. Same with Key. The school board will not force kids out of the immersion program because of a boundary change. But the worst overcrowding is in the north western part of the county and not near the key/ASF boundary.

i hope SB wouldn't base its boundary decisions on whether a school is highly sought after or not.

couldn't SB also break up the overlap between Key and ASFS to bring in more north-side kids to ASFS, while moving some of the non-immersion Key kids to Long Branch/Henry?

i mean, it's not set in stone that Key/ASFS boundaries have to overlap, or is it?

No. It would make more sense for the north-side kids to go to the new schools in the north-side. If they are so up for walkers and not busing--they should keep us in boundary ao we can continue walking the 5-6 blocks to ASFS.

likewise, i bet many families in ASFS immediate neighborhood would love to be rezone to ASFS from Taylor so they can walk less than one block to school...

Wow! Can I ask what school your kids attend that is so amazing that whatever the likely new school would be is sub-par in comparison, to the extent that you'd be willing to move to stay with your current school? All of the schools that are significantly impacted are all pretty darn similar in terms of quality.

Hey, 14:50, wanna make out?

Love,
Someone who certainly had a preference among the team schools but knows her kids could have coped --bravely coped! -- with another Arlington school

This is 14:50. I didn't mean to come across as snarky, but actually don't understand your reply either, so not sure if you're being funny or pissy with me!

Not 15:07, but I am pretty sure she's being funny.

12:48 is a drama queen.

I'm assuming no one's going to have to go to school with the poors.

LVSFS, aka ASFS (same zone as the school not to be named), i guarantee you.

15:07, and yes, I was trying to be funny. And failing! Oh well.

LVSFS and ATS attract some parents with an enthusiasm for their school that outstrips its actual merits. They are fine schools, and if you kid is happy there, great. But if you kid gets moved, he or she can thrive someplace else. Really.

pray tell - what is LVSFS?

That's a lot of transactional cost to incur out of spite. You could probably pay for a year or two of private with it.

Huh? ASFS isn't that highly sought-after. No more than any of the other North Arlington schools.

ASFS is perfectly fine, but it's just a STEM school. There's not particularly unique or special about it, and it's not like people are clamoring to get in.
