| OP here. I ask b/c I'm meeting my husband for a rare lunch at a place with really good cocktails. We don't live in DC so with 2 young kids, rarely have the opportunity to go after work and try a drink. Would love to try just one, but wasn't sure if it was entirely inappropriate. I have, once, had a drink with an old boss but it was during someone's going away party and my boss was also drinking. |
LOL - true. Time for me to stop procrastinating on DCUM and get back to debugging. |
| I work for myself, so have no boss. I am fine with having a glass of wine when meeting with a client for lunch on a Friday or something. But I'd be annoyed if one of my employees did it. |
Wait, WHAT?! I thought your original post implied you were going to lunch with WORK PEOPLE. If you want to drink with your husband, then drink with your husband! Who cares if it's lunch? |
I certainly hope so as I have done it many times (over the years). A single beer/wine/cocktail, at lunch, with colleagues. Perhaps once every couple months at most.
|
If none of your co workers are around, and your boss is not around, or anyone else you work with that will raise an eyebrow, AND if you can still go back to work with a fully functioning brain, then why not? |
If you don't know (meaning the employee didn't do it at work or around others from work, and he or she was not impaired afterwards), does it matter? |
My company serves alcoholic beverages at the office, (sometimes during official work hours), for various receptions. Also I am not working with kids/driving/etc, I mostly just sit in front of a computer all day and do my own work. Given these circumstances, I don't think it's a big deal. If you need to go back to work to your job as a semi-truck driver, a cocktail is probably a bad idea. Otherwise, it will be fine. |
Nope. Total don't ask, don't tell feelings about it. I don't want to be able to tell. |
|
Depends. If I'm with people that drink with lunch, then yes. If not, no.
DH & I will have a glass of alcohol if we're out for lunch on our own but then again we've spent a lot of time in Europe. |
I wish. As a teacher, I think I need one more than anyone, but of course that's illegal.
|
| No, but geez, I'm working from home today and you're giving me a good idea. |
To those of you who do have a drink at lunch and then come back to the office - do you worry that your breath will smell of booze? Personally, I can handle a beer or two without being impared , but I would be weary of the smell.
That said, if you have your own office and don't interact with any coworkers for the rest of the day.. |
Same situation at my job. OP'er, go for it. I wouldnt even bat an eye in your situation. |
| In your scenario then HELL YEAH!! |
