| A friend told me that the power is more reliable in some non-first world countries because they built their infrastructure later than in the US so it's mostly underground or the poles are made of more durable material. And that they don't have landlines because by the time phones were widely available, they just put up cell towers and everyone has a cell phone. |
| Power out in falls church. Any info about how long power will be out? |
| Is the worst over for the DMV area? |
Pepco says only 2 million without power. Should be back on tomorrow. |
| PP, its part of living in D.C. Locals are convinced it happens everywhere else, but we know better thankfully. |
| Out in Bethesda. Went out within 2 minutes of the start of the storm. |
| City o' Fairfax - lights flickered for a moment but stayed on. I made DH clear out the closet under the stairs in case of tornado. (If you are prepared - nothing happens.) We felt the front come over the house just like the derecho. At least it didn't SLAM into the house like the derecho. Now its clearing and we have the windows open b/c it is 63 degrees! |
2 million? Please tell me that's a typo. Anyway falls church has dominion |
According to their website 62,000 are without, almost half in PG county. |
The website claims it will be back on by 8 pm tonight. |
| Any updates for dominion people? |
| Any idea where the tornado actually touched down? I can only find "near Fairfax" and headed east. We are near Merrifield with trees down and branches and tree stuff everywhere. |
| We were at the bookstore at Tyson's. We had no idea what was going on and came out in the middle and drove home in the crazy storm. It was a wild storm, but not as bad as the derecho where we were. |
| Another without power in Falls Church. Anyone else's back on yet? |
| I was in the 4th story bleachers at the Nationals game. Man the wind was strong! |
