This is a challenging endeavor, because the areas zoned to Fairfax High that are not in Fairfax City are closest to schools such as Chantilly and Centreville that are oversubscribed. This redistricting will create some really awkward boundary lines if they're planning to zone these folks to Robinson and particularly Woodson.
Fairfax County really ought to just go back to the drawing board with all school boundaries. The current boundaries are just a mess. |
| What they need is another high school for Western Fairfax. |
agreed |
I agree, but I would have built two high schools for roughly 2300 students each, not one school like Westfield with a capacity of approximately 3000 students. |
I think a lot of the low-income students at Fairfax High School come from apartment complexes within the City of Fairfax. Fairfax City has a ton of apartments, and most are pretty rough. It's a shame because the single-family and townhouse neighborhoods in Fairfax City are nice, but the whole City, and the schools too, are brought down by the apartments. Unfortunately the Fairfax City Council is apparently looking to add thousands of MORE apartment units to the City, since that's what developers want to build right now, so that definitely isn't going to make the City a better place for families. But overall, this redistricting should solve a lot of problems for FHS and Lanier. |
| We are in the Wegmans area and zoned to both. |
Produce and seafood? |
Aisle 10A. Renting a room from Ben & Jerry. |
| Who cares about supposed affluent or low income. Boundaries she be drawn via distance and distance alone. Fairfax City is pretty gross in most of the areas. Even the SFH areas are ridden with crime. There are a few pockets on nice, but not many. This is why Fairfax is cheaper to buy in than say Oakton or Vienna, nearby areas with better high schools. You do get what you pay for. |
This is the first I've ever heard Fairfax City being a crime-ridden craphole. If it were a neighborhood in DC it'd be one of the safest in the city. City-date crime rate for Fairfax City: 124.8 in 2010 and 122.0 in 2009 Alexandria: 157.4 in 2010 and 170.8 in 2009 Leesburg: 137.1 in 2010 and 143.0 in 2009 |
omg, I see...less than wealthy people. RUN!!!! |
Oakton and Vienna have shady sides as well. Maple Ave apartments, anyone?! Just as bad if not worse. |
