How long should we wait before telling family and friends that we are pregnant?

We told my family at about 8 weeks after seeing the heartbeat. We told DH's family at about 10 weeks (we wanted to tell them in person and that's when we saw them -- my family is local). I waited until about 16 weeks to tell friends because I wanted to wait that long to tell my boss and my world was too interconnected for me to take the chance of my boss finding out before I felt comfortable telling him.

If you are okay telling people you are pregnant, be okay with telling them if something goes wrong. If that gives you pause, then wait!

I told my family after my first doctors appointment at about 8 weeks. I would suggest waiting as long as possible to share the news at work. I waited until I started showing which was almost 4 months. Since I had prior miscarriages and worked at a big company where word traveled fast, I didn't want to have to deal with the pain/awkwardness of having to tell everyone that I was no longer pregnant if something went wrong again.
