It's probably the same test with some of the sections/questions removed or reduced. They have probably found that certain subjects/questions were answered correctly by too many kids. Fairfax kids are SO superior that the standard abilities test doesn't discriminate sufficiently! It's crazy when being in the top 2% of children in the nation is not good enough to warrant advanced programs. Makes me miss the simple world I grew up in. |
| Hmmmm, so we have to wait until the AAP informational meeting held every fall to find out what this is all about, I suppose? |
| What is FAT? Where can I get more info? |
| Where can I find a prep course for the fat? |
| I am sure that the people who make a lot money from this sort of thing will have books and courses soon! |
| Pitiful that we are down to this, but so necessary. 50 percent of my dc's class will be in AAP next year. 30 kids per class. Ridiculous -- so many principal designates because tiger moms are unreal. Some of these kids haven't even mastered addition/subtraction and now are they going to do 4th grade math in 3rd grade? Class will be dumbed down for certain. Or maybe a remedial for the AAP student who prepped or referred in. Hey wait isn't that what's happening at TJ? |
You have got to be kidding right? Oh, wait, I forgot we just can't allow our children to test showing their NATURAL ability can we? Why do you think FCPS did this? Wouldn't it be nice some day to see what our kids can do with appropriate parent enrichment and involvement, rather than prepping for THE TEST. |
Is this at a center or Local Level IV? Principals can add kids at their own discretion to a LLIV class in order to even out numbers per teacher, but I believe that they cannot do that for Center classes.
This is one of the possible explanations for why so many freshman needed tutoring last year. |
I suspect the poster was being sarcastic. |
| I am the prep course person. I am quite serious. I mean, while my DD clearly has an IQ of 972 based on her fingerprinting, I can not risk her brilliant use of media being missed by the committee. |
You know, the worst thing is that the teacher gave her a GBRS of only 2! TWO! If she only saw how much giftedness she shows when I do her assignments for, I mean with her at home then she would not have given DD such and unfair score. Don't worry, with some hard work every day I will make sure her FAT is the biggest it can be! |
I'm pretty fat, do you think my children inherited that? They should do fine on the FAT test.
|
I guess it all depends on what "appropriate" parent enrichment and involvement really is? prepping for THE TEST may not be mutually exclusive of "appropriate" parental enrichment (code word for training over the long haul) and "involvement". At the end of the day I doubt any of us are interested in tax accountants, pilots, surgeons and musicians simply showing us "natural" ability (in the context of a vacuum or blank slate). And none of us lives in a vacuum with a blank slate ... save a few teabag bible clutching and gun toting wing nuts. |
You should definitely consider enrolling her in some fingerprinting enrichment classes. Don't let her talent waste away. Good luck, PP! |
| Two ES teacher household here, and neither of us have heard of this FAT test before reading about it here. |
