FCPS testing for AAP

pure speculation on my part, but my guess is the new test is designed to reduce the disparate impact on blacks and Hispanics.

I think it is to counter the issue they had with CogAT Form 7.

Yes, what is the issue?

Also, I would be interested in knowing how the readers here view various levels of prepping. I have read pros and cons. What I want to know is whether you view prepping via a commerical course as significantly different compared to going over the sample test provided by the company that publishes the exams (NNAT and CoGAT). Thanks in advance.

I am wondering how is the FAT constructed. I assume that they just worked up on COGAT to delete questions that all kids answered correctly and added several difficult questions so kids can be differentiated. I am not sure how will they do the age-adjusted score though - will the county have a large enough pool of kids born in each month to compute the age-adjusted score?

I hope the FAT is a better test than the COGAT. A good IQ test should not be too affected by preparation. To truly differentiate kids, they should make the concepts much more abstract; that way, no preparation is useful unless it is real IQ improvement.

The CogAt multilevel is what fcps should use, not the easier one that they currently use.
